Rattler in the Roughhouse!

Post by OldGuy »

I decided to put a Rattler front fender on my Roughhouse. I like the Rattler 110 look, and really am not a fan of the Roughhouse front fender style. Thought I would post a couple of pictures here for fun.

The RH50 forks don't have the mount points for the Rattler fender so I had to fab a couple of brackets. These are held to the fork with hose clamps. Sounds goofy but it is very secure and seems to look okay. The brackets and hose camps are covered with black electrical tape to prevent scratching up the forks.

Going back to the Roughhouse parts will be easy if that ever is needed.

I agree, I prefer the Rattler bars too.

By the way, I notice that some forum posts contain pictures which are visible whether I am logged in or not. Mine, and some others, are only visible to me when I am logged in.

What can I do so that people don't need to log in to see my pictures? Thx!

Oldguy - Is the bike in your avatar a Hodaka?

The avatar is indeed a Hodaka. I have a "Toaster Tank" 1971 Ace 100B. It is a fun bike, light and capable. I've had it for perhaps 10 years. Mine is not a beauty queen but is a decent daily use runner.

These bikes have one quirk, the Hodaka transmission shifts opposite most bikes (1 up, 4 down, where most are 1 down 4 up). If I have been riding other bikes I need to mind myself; to easy to shift backwards!

You know of Hodakas?

I was a big motocross fan in the 70s and early 80s, before I went into the Marines. The Hodakas were notorious for beating bikes with much bigger engines in the major desert races back then. I grew up in Georgia so we didn't see many of them in person.
I have a Buddy now, but would like to find a nice used Rattler to get my 2 stroke jollies.

Nice! MX was really exciting back then, as bikes were still evolving a lot.

My Roughhouse 50 is a lot of fun, and I imagine a Rattler 110 would be a blast.

And, if you find a Hodaka, there is a good following and very good parts support. Strictly Hodaka, back east, bought up most of the spares and they have a ton of stuff. And prices are good. I can order most anything I need.

The Hodakas were tough and very capable compared to other Japanese bikes at the time. And, they were designed in Oregon by a small team, then built in Japan. Their story is unique.
