Making sure the oil pump is working

Hey guys. Got a question. Lets say I replace all the lines with clear see through hoses so I can check for air in the oil pump. I'm replacing the head and will be putting premix until I am absolutely certain that the oil pump is working properly.

If it isnt working and I replace said pump, how do I prime it since its mechanical?

You suck on it as hard as you can.

Don't do that, unless you like the taste of 2 stroke oil (I heard tell there is a strawberry scented one now...)

There is a bleed screw on the front of the pump, should be a shiny brass looking thing with a combined hex/phillips head. Pull that completely off, and wait for oil to start flowing out. Re-install the screw, and run it on a tank of premix while the oil gets up through the line feeding the intake manifold. You'll know when it does, because the thing will start laying down a smokescreen.
