Modern Buddy

Question for those who considered a Buddy before deciding on a model from the "spirited side" of Genuine. What was it that finally made you decide against the Buddy? I was convinced a Buddy was in my future, until yesterday when I rented a Black Cat. The Black Cat seems to be built a little more rugged, along with having a slightly higher seat height. I'm not a particularly big guy at 5'9", so I'm sure a Buddy will fit me just fine. I was just curious if there were additional considerations other than the fact a "spirited" model might be a better fit for a taller rider. Thanks!

I opted for a BC due to the taller seat height (I am 6'2") but also because of the larger footboard area. I actually liked the fact that it wasn't "cookie cutter" looking. I mean, I did remove the Black Cat stickers but that just meant I was able to personalize it to my specific tastes. Since they aren't as popular, I also got it new for a nice price.

For me it was the Motard style of the bike, looks good with a little dirt on it. And since I have a 110, the large 2 stroke. Who knows how much longer they'll be able to make and sell large 2 strokes in this country, I can always get a 4 stroke later... they're not going anywhere.

I went to the dealer looking for a Fly 50 - then looked at a buddy but it seemed a little small on me - then they suggested a "new" 2006 rattler 50 that they had & wanted to move bad (this was in march when the weather was still bad here & gas was only $3)
I had looked at the rattlers on the genuine website but didnt even think about one - till I saw it in person & rode it

The Buddy was too cutesy. This coming from a girl with a pink scooter Actually, the real reason was because my husband was getting a Roughhouse. I didn't want him riding around without me, that just wouldn't be fair! We never do any off-road riding anyway, but the nice big tires do come in handy with all the road construction going on around here. I think the only disappointment I've had with it is the lack of accessories available. However, this just gives us all more opportunities to be "creative."

for me it was because I hadn't even heard of a Buddy until I bought the Rattler. Even if I had I would probably have bought the Ratt anyway since I got an awesome deal on it.

For me it was the unique and rugged look of the Rattler. To quote another post, the buddy looks "too cutesy". I like the sound and feel of the 2str 110cc engine.

I now have another reason I like the Roughhouse/Rattler better... I rode a 50cc Buddy yesterday while at the dealer for maintenance. It felt so tiny to me, and I'm only 5'7! The balance seemed kind of shaky. I would NOT want to be riding that thing at 50 mph. Of course, it could just be because I'm not used to it. The thing was still restricted. I almost forgot what it was like to have angry drivers behind me... until then.

so have you made a decision yet?

Leaning towards Rough House. The place in Lake Geneva will be selling all their Black Cat rental units next month, so maybe a viable option lies there as well.

well if you buy used, it should be cheaper then new, broken in already and it should, repeat should, have been maintained properly. but then there's always the argument if you buy new you'll have the warranty. so i agree it's a tough call.
