Scooter Photo Scavenger Hunt 2010 Week 4: Bridges

Post by ScootLemont »

Scooter Photo Scavenger Hunt 2010 Week 4: Bridges
April 18th – April 25th

Join in on the fun!
Note: if you haven’t joined the hunt yet, you can still jump in.
You do not have to go crazy with 20 point photos – If you want, feel free to go get the basic photo & post up. No one will give you a hard time here. We just want lots of people to play along – the fun part is seeing LOTS of scoots with the subject of the week.

I have been sitting on this subject since 2008 & it should be pretty easy one for everyone to play

4pts- your scooter with a bridge
+3pts if your scooter is ON the bridge
+4pts if your scooter is UNDER the bridge
+3pts if the bridge is over another road
+4pts if the bridge is over railroad tracks
+6pts if the bridge is over water (river, canal, stream, creek, lake, etc – not a bucket of water)
+4pts if it is a RAILROAD bridge (be careful!)
---------------------
+2pt if the bridge is bridge is primarily made of concrete
+4pts if the bridge is bridge is primarily made of steel
+6pts if the bridge is bridge is primarily made of wood
(You can only get points for one of the above construction types)
----------------------
+5pts if there is a boat (anywhere) in the photo (must be a “real” boat, at least big enough to hold one person)
+5pts if there is a train (anywhere) in the photo (must be a real train... not a toy train, model train, etc)
+3pts if there is a TROLL (real or doll) in the photo – Trolls live around bridges (make sure we can see the troll if it is a small one!)
+2 pts if you are in the photo
+1 pt for the first pic in this week

Edit 4/18 at 9:45pm CST - there will be a maximum of 30 points allowed this week as I dont want to invalidate the hard work people did in weeks 1 & 2 when there were not as many points available. I hope everyone is ok with that.

Questions? PM me

Photo must be posted by midnight in YOUR time zone on 4/25/10

PLEASE do your own math & include you point total with your submission!!!!

General Rules for every week:
-Only one photo may be submitted by each member for each week’s subject. (but if you get a better pic later in the week, POST IT with your new points - PLEASE edit your original post note that you posted a better pic and note in the newer post that it is a replacement for a previous pic.
-Old photos you have lying around can NOT be used- they must be NEW photos taken the week the photo subject was posted
-No Photoshop submissions
-Prizes? Eric says YES! At the end of each month the person with the best point totals for the hunts run during that month will get a prize... but this is about bragging rights & all the fun we will have this summer… not just prizes so play along even if you don’t plan on winning

Prize for April: Modern Buddy Patch (priceless) + a Gen U Bin ($39.95 http://shop.scooterdude.us/GEN-U-BIN-G6.htm)

Just to be clear....
the primary photo you must have is "4pts- your scooter with a bridge"
the rest of the items are add ons to that photo.... you can take a photo of your scooter with a boat, but if it is not on, under or near a bridge, you do not get any points.

Get it??

I am going to say yes
I am a little nervous about that because I am concerned that someone could get so many points that it could make the first two weeks of the 2020 hunt irrelevant and that wouldn't be fair to the people who tried hard in those weeks. Thats why I put a limit on the number of points for letters last week.
That being said.... if you have more than one bridge that are truly close to each other, you can count more than one bridge.
But.... so we dont get out of hand with this week, I am going to say the max points for this week is 30. Hope everyone is ok with that. Again, I am just trying to keep it fair & lets face it.... its really hard to anticipate what people are going to come up with after the weeks hunt is posted.

Cant wait to see the pic!

I'm not sure now how to score this, SL. Before your last post, this is what I had:
4pts- your scooter with a bridge
+4pts if your scooter is UNDER the bridge
+3pts if the bridge is over another road
+6pts if the bridge is over water (river...)
---------------------
+2pt if the bridge is bridge is primarily made of concrete
----------------------
+5pts if there is a train (anywhere) in the photo (must be a real train... not a toy train, model train, etc)
+2 pts if you are in the photo

For a total of 26 points.

But I (happen to) have three bridges in the picture below, the one the scoot and I are under, the concrete bridge the light-rail train is on, and the old stell rail bridge behind it. would I score +4 for each of those? Or +4 for each plus +2 because the foreground (second) bridge is concrete and +4 because the background (third) bridge is steel?

If the train in my pic was 15 minutes earlier, I would have topped 30 points without counting more than one bridge anyway. And I don't even have a troll! So until the scoring gets straightened out I'm sticking with 26 for the week, 70 for April.

Glad I read the post again before heading into town.

I've had a fever for a few days and I'm busy and unable to scoot until next Tuesday.

That said, I will someday soon go in town and get a photo of what would have brought in 1,000,000 points.

There's a wooden train bridge near Boston University that is under a car bridge and above a wooden footbridge and a river. It's said to be the only place in the world where a boat can be under a person, a train, a car and a plane at the same time.

That said, I'll probably lug myself down the road to get a photo at a drawbridge that is scheduled to go up at 5:30 today. That means a tanker is coming through and if I time it correctly I can get a photo of me, the scoot, the bridge and the oil tanker at the same time. There's also a train in the background and a Navy Destroyer, a commuter ferry and random other watercraft.

Won't be a million points, but it'll be something if I get motivated. :-)

Even though I don't play, I do follow this thread each week. If I may suggest, how about just having a cap each week of X number of points say 30. Have it the same amount for the entire season, and come up with a couple tie breakers in the event of a tie in points at the end of the season. Maybe tie breakers could be the person who was first the most, or at give a point for each week played.

Just a thought or two, I'll go back to lurking in the corner.

Ok for starters me and MB member Oli went for a cruise today... Took him to an old condemned Route 66 bridge that has been closed over a decade. (we rode across it anyways oops) then we saw another way so here goes. my numbers will probably be bad since I don't believe in black math so correct me. Plus he may post something we took many pics around here.

4 points for scoot with bridge. (there are 2 scoots there where is the luv??;) )
4 points scoot under bridge.
6 points for bridge over troubled water.
2 points for bridge made of concrete. (however the route 66 bridge is steel sweet!)
2 points for being in photo.
4 points for steel bridge in background. (the 66 bridge)

22 points this week. 33 for the month... if anyone sees any errors please point out.
On the plus side MB member Oli and I had a kickass 40+mile ride today!!!!

2nd photo is of the 66 bridge and you can see the other one we went under.

All pics of me taken by MB Member Oli.

UPDATE: See a full res pic on twitter. I am @drjuggernaught heres the full res twit link. http://twitpic.com/1hp6gi/full

Took this yesterday before I knew this scav hunt even existed. It's a bad cell phone shot from the seat of my new tangerine Buddy 125 facing a railroad drawbridge that's in the up position - from the tracks. For Chicagoans, it's that bridge just south of Kinzie that's always up.

this is a shot from the old 66 bridge. It's from the same series that Dr. Rock has. let me see if I got this right:

4pts..scooter and bridge
+3pts..scooter on bridge
+6pts for over water
+4pts..made of steel
+2pts...i'm in it
+3pts for the troll... the troll was disguised as a wet dog that came out of nowhere. it didn't walk in front of us and we didn't see it cross from the other side...so, logically, it came from under the bridge; where trolls live. Obviously, this is a troll.
+50 pts for troll/rabies shot.

Was perusing laughing at our pics and noticed the new 66 bridge IS visible in Oli's pic. Left side concrete. If you look at mine above you can see it closer. Anyways tell me to shut up if I am way off, we just had so much damn fun on that ride. otherwise 23 points?

I hate to be a point Nazi but some people take the points seriously so I gotta say no the the new 66 bridge - If you didn't say it was on the left side of the pic & it was concrete I wouldn't have know that was a bridge

here's my post up for the week...
4 pts for the photo
4 for under the bridge
4 bridge over roadway
6 bridge over water
4 RR bridge (passenger rail)
2 for concrete construction (it had steel beams, but the most obvious was the concrete)
5 for the Metro
2 for me in the photo

sounds like a 30 pointer! I planned on getting one with my wife in as well, but the battery died and she doesn't have an MB username yet.

Bridge #1 I-94
4pts- your scooter with a bridge
+2pt if the bridge is bridge is primarily made of concrete
+4pts if your scooter is UNDER the bridge
+3pts if the bridge is over another road (notice to the left of the sign)
+6pts if the bridge is over water (Missouri River)

Bridge #2 Railroad Bridge
4pts- your scooter with a bridge
+4pts if it is a RAILROAD bridge

Bridge #3 The New Memorial Bridge
4pts- your scooter with a bridge

Bridge #4 The Expressway Bridge
4pts- your scooter with a bridge

+5pts if there is a boat (anywhere) in the photo Not the boat being pulled by the truck down to the boat ramp. There actually is another boat being pulled away from the ramp behind it. There were plenty of boats in the water but none of them wanted to help me out by drifting in my view.

I'll take the maximum......please....... :P

I would have gone for a more scenic shot and less points if I wasn't afraid I'd get run off by the police. On the New Memorial Bridge, either end, there is a really nice walkway with a sculpture and flags but the only way to get to it would be to walk my scoot up and even then I don't think it would go over well.

My first scavenger hunt...

Post by SuperFlyBuddy »

Forgive me if I don't score myself properly as I'm a rookie here:

Bridge #1: East Main St (the one I'm on)
4pts- your scooter with a bridge
+3pts if your scooter is ON the bridge
+3pts if the bridge is over another road
+6pts if the bridge is over water
+2pt if the bridge is primarily made of concrete
+2 pts if you are in the photo

Bridge #2: I-5 (upper bridge)
4pts- your scooter with a bridge
+4pts if your scooter is UNDER the bridge
+3pts if the bridge is over another road
+2pt if the bridge is primarily made of concrete
+2 pts if you are in the photo

Looks like 30 points for the only entry West of Arizona!

Just in the nick of time too! 10:25pm PDT

I do want to take a minute to apologize to the hunters - I kind of screwed the pooch on bridge week with the available total points.
I try to keep them within 5 or 8 or so points of each other when it comes to total points available for each week. That way someone that works hard to get a bunch of points one week does not feel like it was all for nothing when someone doubles their points a week or two later.
I just didn't anticipate the multi-bridge photos.

That being said, I am by no means knocking any of the bridge photos - a couple of these were in the top 10 pics that we have had in any hunt since 2008!

Thanks again to everyone who is playing (& if you are not playing but enjoying the pics, get out there on your scoot & join in the fun!)

If anyone has any more suggestions for subjects, please feel free to PM me.

Nothing but respect from me, SL. Your Hunts just get better attendance than any of ours have. You've got the touch, I guess.

Lots less drama than in some weeks in '08 too. I hope we can keep that up!
