Next tag: A home in foreclosure
Note the overgrown dying yard and notices taped to the front door. Notices taped to the door is a requirement otherwise a place like this just looks like a rental.
There was another place around the corner with a much more overgrown yard but nothing taped to the door so I opted for this one.

Most mortgage companies will hire a landscape company to maintain the property periodically so it doesn't fall victim to vangrancy, vandalism and all that other shit, or depreciate the value of the neighborhood. This tag just seems morally wrong, but I'm already on the yahoo real estate site looking for the few around here!KRUSTYburger wrote:haha, that yard looks professionally landscaped compared to most yards around here! At least they have grass instead of dirt, and shrubs to boot!

agreed... Very creative, but I'm really not offended the least.SuperFlyBuddy wrote:I figured some would be offended by it but (I don't feel) it's nearly as wrong as the roadside memorial tag posted awhile back.BootScootin'FireFighter wrote:This tag just seems morally wrong, but I'm already on the yahoo real estate site looking for the few around here!

Yes, it is tasteless. Welcome to my decimated neighborhood. But we'll survive this, just as the generations before survived the ups and downs of the economy. Neighbors cut the grass and make sure the yard stays free of trash and debris.
I knew the owner who had to default because the bank would just not work with him on a modification. The foreclosure was in October 2010, the bank put this building on the market, along with 3 others on the street in a package deal, in February 2011. I heard they were purchased by outsiders in April 2011. None of the neighbors have seen any renovation activity, and there are squatters in the other three buildings. The squatters were previously rent-paying tenants. Because the neighbors know everybody, there have been no problems. Having people in the other three houses has kept the drug dealing out. The house in the picture is completely empty, but the pipes and boilers have not been taken as we all have been keeping a vigilant eye on it. Despite the problems, I love my neighborhood. I know every single neighbor on my block, both owner-occupiers and renters.

Nobody? Should I put up a different tag? Or is it just too hot to ride?

I think that's Ethiopian... not exactly sure.
Next tag, a Larry Crowne theater poster!

That's a good one, Syd. But I have no idea where those boards are as I'm never on the interstate. I'll have to start looking around...

Funny, 5 years ago people were jealous of areas that HAD a Starbucks, now people are jealous of areas that DON'T. As a fan of generic, drip, decaf, I never got Starbucks. Not that there's anything wrong with liking Starbucks.KABarash wrote:I'd have to ride 40 miles to the nearest Starbucks........BootScootin'FireFighter wrote: Please no Starbucks, that's too easy.
I'll get my neighborhood coffee place this afternoon!

It's Roxy Ann Peak.Syd wrote:Thanks for the jumpstart SuperFly. What's the mountain in the background?
At 3,500 ft it's not tall enough to be called a mountain by us locals.

That's a challenge for us. Pacific Northwest... You can't walk blindfolded without hitting a coffee shop. That's like me parking in front of some Mexican food place in San Antonio and telling you no Taco Bell, must be a strip mall Jalisco. lolBootScootin'FireFighter wrote:

And now I want some decent coffee and not the junk burning in our break room. Thanks!
No, my scooter isn't Italian, but my Beretta is...

Memorial Bridge, over the Potomac river, taken from the northbound George Washington Parkway. The bike path runs for over 24 miles to Mt Vernon and connects with a vast network of bikeways in the area of downtown.
Next up.... a PUBLIC LIBRARY
This one's for you Polinarchy!

Sweet shot, FireFighter!
Could you elate us on the backdrop (pardon my ignorance of the DC area bridges)?
As to the challenge -- once again it is way to easy for me - got two public libraries whithin single minutes ridin'... I'll post later if noone comes through (though I'd make it more interesting and go to the central one in Manhattan)
Happy scootin'

Re: No Outlet Signage
Nice to see you again, BoneGirl! I don't think the No Outlet sign is a repeat, but that's OK. I think we've had a couple recently. That must mean it's time for an updated rerun of the TagList.
