Scooter Photo Scavenger Hunt Week 12: Born To Be Wild
Aug 15th-21st

This week’s topic is based on a suggestion from SScooterG
– thanks!

Your scooter with motorcycles

+1 point if you are in the photo with your scooter (your entire body)
+1 point for the first pic posted.
+1 point for each motorcycle in the photo with your scooter (max points 10) EDIT 8/15 - other scooters do NOT count
+1 point for each motorcycle rider (max points 10) in the photo with your scooter.
For the riders to count: they must be posing with your scooter OR their motorcycle.
(do I need to define posing again?)
All the guys (or girls) DON’T have to be NEXT to your scooter, they can be by their own bikes – as long as they are looking at the camera or otherwise look like they know they are part of a group photo (I will rule on this if there is any doubt)

You can NOT have more rider points than cycle points – max of one rider point per cycle point. You cant just get a group of guys to pose with your scooter & no cycles – we are looking for bikers AND their bikes.

What I don’t expect is a photo of your scooter parked a block away from a bar that has some Harleys in front & a couple guys out front smoking – that aint gonna cut it.

You know what we are looking for here! Ideally a group of “rough & tumble” bikers with their chromed out Harleys. But a bunch of organ donors & their crotch rockets is ok as well. Heck, feel free to get a pic of the AARP guys on their Gold Wings with your scoot.

NO cycle sales lots, cycle stores, rental places, etc.
No bicycles & bicycle riders.

For you scooter & you to be “with” the bikes / bikers, you scooter must be within 10 feet of the closest cycle (obviously the rest might be farther away, like if they are parked in a row & you park at the end of the row)

I must be able to clearly see each bike & biker in ONE photo.

I know what the guys are saying… this isn’t fair! Sure one of the girls is going to go into a bar & ask a bunch of bikers to pose with their “cute little scooter” & it will be easy. Well… yeah. I am thinking this might cost me a round of beers at a bar to get a pic with a lot of points.

Questions? You know where to reach me.

PLEASE do your own math & include you point total with your submission!!!! (if you don’t include your points, you don’t get them)

General Rules for every week:
-A new photo subject added every Friday. Participants will have until the following Thursday to post their pic (taken that week)
-Only one photo may be submitted by each member for each week’s subject. (but if you get a better pic later in the week, PLEASE edit your original post note that you posted a better pic and note in the newer post that it is a replacement for a previous pic.
-Old photos you have lying around can NOT be used- they must be NEW photos taken the week the photo subject was posted
-10 BONUS POINTS (good anytime all summer) for a photo of you getting a ticket (photo must include your scooter & a cop writing the ticket) only one of these may be submitted per player. (Thanks to kazoo for the suggestion)
(Edit – you don’t have to be REALLY getting a ticket… if you can get a cop to pose like he/she is writing you a ticket, that is good enough)
-No Photoshop submissions
-Prize? Sure, if we can figure out a way to do that, but the real prize will be bragging rights & all the fun we all had all summer.

Scooter Photo Scavenger Hunt!
What is it? - Every Friday a new photo subject is posted in gallery forum & it will be your job to go get a photo of your scooter with that subject.

When is it? - It was started May 30th & hopefully will run it all summer, finishing up Labor Day weekend. That will give us 14 photos to get.
Who? - EVERYONE is encouraged to participate, the more players the better! Some subjects will be easy & some will be more difficult. Some might be impossible for some people but do your best & participate when you can. Don’t worry if you didn’t get in at the start... just jump in anytime!

If anyone has any suggestions for photo subjects or on how to make this more fun, please post up or PM me.

Let me know if i messed up your points

Just because I feel like this might come up... do other scooters qualify as motorcycles. (I would guess no but I'm trying to ask before it comes up)

+1 point for the first pic posted.
(4)+1 point for each motorcycle in the photo with your scooter
+1 point for each motorcycle rider in the photo with your scooter.

Apparently the DMV rocks when you don't actually have to go in the building.

It's taking longer to get these posted up now that you have to run them through the legal department? :D

Well, I found some bikers that had met-up at Sonic, but they were all parked in different areas around, so
I got the most I could in one shot. I was way too afraid to ask them to move the bikes or pose with them!

Image

That's 5 points for 5 cycles I guess. Even though there IS a 6th, but you can only see one of the
side lights (right above the scoot on the far right).
I'll try to get a better one later this week, but I doubt I could top that. I guess we'll see...

Here is my first attempt for this week, but I'm hoping to do better.

8 pts for the motorcycles (can you see them all ok?)
2 pts for the riders

Total = 10 pts UPDATED -- SEE BELOW

They tell me that there is a big gathering for a ride this weekend to honor fallen officers? or something like that. They're expecting 1000 bikers here on Sunday morning. Maybe I'll have a chance to get some photos....

Image

Ok, here is my second attempt. The camera angle isn't too good so it's hard to count the bikes. There were actually 15 parked in the row, but I can only make out 11 in the photo. Anyway, here's my updated score:

10 points for the bikes
10 points for the riders
1 point for me in the pic

Total = 21 points

I'm still hoping to get some pics from the big ride tomorrow. I'll post if I can.

Great photo MarsR. Yeah....getting 10 bikes in a row in a picture is tough to do and be able to see them all....but you did a great job. Now, I wanna see you get 1000 in a row!

Thanks, O. And if you think getting the bikes is hard, wait till you try getting that many bikers to pose!

And yeah, everybody keeps telling me to come back tomorrow at 10am. They are riding from here up to the Utah State Capital in Salt Lake City and back.

Nice job MarsR.

I'm trying to figure out where to find enough bikers that won't either point and laugh at me or kick my ass.. or both :D

Sometimes I wish I was a cute girl. :P

I kept thinking the riders had to be on their bikes. Anyway, I did a benefit ride today with 65 motorcyclists and had a blast, even if my Scavenger Hunt points are crappy. It's hard to get folks to pose during these rides because most of them don't wear helmets and when it's time to go, it's time to go! Here's the link to the rest of the pics if anyone is interested:

 It's awesome due to its scale and audacity yet kind of tacky, absurd and ridiculous at the same time. It's Graceland on wheels.

Great picture!
Yeah, you're right. Been seeing this pink monster on my way home from work every once in a while. But never stopped in to see what the deal was. It sat in front of an automotive parts store. Well, Saturday, the Pinkster sorta took control and turned into the parking lot. Turns out the shop is not only a parts store but they custom build these Boss Hoss cycles. The shop is Boss Hoss of Va and you wouldn't believe the bikes they build. V8 engines, trunks, and oh, well, take a look at his site. Here's another "happy customer" from his website. Can you believe it?

Yeah.....and this one, or others like it can be yours for anywhere from $35,000 to $85,000! Yes, you read that right. I didn't accidentally add too many zeros. Now people that buy these things have truly got waaaayyyy too much money.

Well, I've learned today that getting Harley owners to pose with their bikes for some total stranger that just rides up and asks a "favor" is a lot like herding cats.

But these fine folks were glad to help me out and several of them actually thought the Pinkster was really "cute". One of the ladies said that was EXACTLY what she wanted to get. She sat on the Pinkster and loved it.

Unfortunately, there was another 5 bilkes across the parking lot, but I couldn't get them all in the photo. Well, maybe later............

5 bikes
5 riders (the lady in orange had her own bike -- the other two were riders)
1 me in the photo
11 points for now. And I'm hoping for a better entry later on.

But MarsR......where's YOUR scoot? And you couldn't get a single one of them to look at you and wave?????

Okay... here's my entry for the week. Very poor execution on the photo taking, though, since there were about 50 motorcycles there. I was only able to get 9 of the riders organized enough to take the picture. Was easier to get them to take a picture than I thought. Got a couple "Awww... it's so cute" from the women in the group. I think they were talking about my Blur, but who knows.

+1 point if you are in the photo with your scooter (your entire body)
+9 points for 9 motorcycles in the photo with your scooter
+9 points for 9 motorcycle riders

Total 19 points

And a close up to see "the group of “rough & tumble” bikers"

Wow, this was a fun assignment! I must admit that I have ridden my scooter up Angeles Crest numerous times now, but until this week's challenge I didn't have the nerve to go to Newcomb's Ranch where all the bikers hang out. I rode up yesterday, but there were only 5 motorcycles there (it was in the afternoon). So I went back today. There were lots of motorcycles, but walking up to strangers and asking them to pose with me and my scooter was, well, interesting. I got 10 motorcycles and 10 riders and you can see the front of my scooter. 21 points.

Yes, asking strangers to be in your photo for your scooter group is like herding cats, as OScoot! said. I had the photo all planned out but when I handed my camera to some guy to take the picture, people decided to change the angle, which put my scoot in the background. Oh well. They were all very nice and asked lots of questions about my Buddy, but the poor guy next to me in the red jacket was really thirsty and just wanted the photo to be done with. :) (I am in the middle wearing the brown top and jeans.)

Thanks for the great assignment this week ScootLemont!

Funny since last week when we went out to get the Welcome To.. picture, we got there and found the town swarmed with bikers. Could have maxed out points easy. But no way to know if they're out there this week I settle for what I find here, seems the local Starbucks is the "hang out" for bikes because they can all ride right up on the "plaza" and walk right in.

These guys were cool, and the best part was as we stood there talking, another guy (green Kawi) showed up, and the rider on the furthest back bike came back from wherever he was.. so got a few more points. Funny thing was they wanted to talk about my scooter :D Then as we're all there, a few more people just walking by ask again about my scooter with no interest in the big bikes.

Oh well..
4 motorcycles
4 riders
1 me

9 points.

Two weeks plus without a cellphone or internet access and what's the first thing I do on my return? Fire up the PC and check the Scavenger Hunt. (Sigh), I think I need a life.

Too bad I got back just today, because we've got several weekend-outlaw-biker hangouts in Phx metro, but I'll see what I can dig up by Thursday.

Also too bad I was out of town for last weeks Hunt, (and neighborhood names didn't count) or I could have gone huge here: Palo Verde Mobile Home and Recreational Vehicle Park, AZ for 45 points!!

Thanks for that. I don't know who said it first, but I'll say it now: "Not just no, Hell no!"

The Hunt has been the single most enjoyable thread on MB. Period. Some of the weeks have gotten a little, er, testy, and I'll bet I test the limits again before the summer ends (apologies in advance).

But the level of continuing involvement by the posters, the overall quality of the submissions, and the work you have obviously taken on to keep it going make the Hunt just a blast. I can only hope that after the summer ends it can continue on, or that maybe the Global Tag thread can pick up the torch (only because it looks like it could be self managing).
