Who's painted their passenger foot...things?

Post by Jake »

I'm thinking about painting mine black to match. Or maybe some ridiculous color and then painting my milk crate to match. I'm mostly curious as to how well Krylon fusion will take to just spraying on. I hate prepping, haha. Anyone know if you can just re-coat that stuff with another color if I don't like the looks of it?

for prepping with krylon fusion the best thing is to wipe the pieces clean.
i did rough them up a little with a high count grit sand paper. i have heard many peolpe say they didn't use sand paper and it worked fine.

even when sanding mine first i have lost a few chips of paint on the "corners"

I've been thinking of doing the same thing.

I'd like them in black. I'll have to give this more thought.

Pictures would be awesome from anybody that has done it...anyone?

I took this picture earlier this year:
Krylon Fuzion Yellow; after about 3K of abuse; (I see coffee stains and NM dirt) – since then, 3K more of abuse, there are now worn spots, wearing through the yellow, and through the base color. Otherwise the yellow sticks to the original.
I did not prepare the original surface other than de-grease, and a quick rub down with a light steel wool.

Not Fusion, just regular old Krylon. Lightly sanded, cleaned, primed and 2-3 light coats. That was about 3 months ago.

And now that I look at those pics, I don't like them. I think they'll soon be flat black.
I suppose I should be upset, even feel violated, but I'm not. No, in fact, I think this is a friendly message, like "Hey, wanna play?" and yes I want to play. I really really do.

Those pics look pretty slick.

I agree with the flat black. I think I'm going to do it. Maybe in a month or two. I can't go crazy on all the customization that I want to do.

Eh, I just sprayed mine satin black. I'll find some random use for blue fusion and fluorescent pink paint, I'm sure. Maybe the milk crate...

Anyway, I'll post here once they're dry.

I painted mine with Krylon Fusion in the black Textured Shimmer. It blends in nicely with the black on the rest of the inside. There's really not a lot of "shimmer", but the texture seems more secure for someplace where you will be placing your feet.

The Satin Black Fusion is darker and shinier than the inside plastic color.

...I might redo them with the aforementioned colors. 8)

If you start off with a coat of Dupli-Color "adhesion promoter" pretty much any spray paint should stick. It's a great flexible primer made specifically for plastics, available at any auto parts store. If you want to keep your color coat from getting scratched up just do a few layers of clear coat.

I actually did mine 2-3 weeks ago. Krylon silver, with clear coat, and primer. I did sand lightly, then primed, then did the silver, then clear coat. Looks good as new. I did it because my gf layed the buddy down :(. But, its like new now.

after 2-3 weeks, there is some light wear.. which im not happy with. So I may try the Fusion product.. hopefully it holds up stronger.

I am going to paint mine with self ecthing primer- it is virtually the same color as the flat green part of my international. I will post pics once I get off my lazy butt and pull the can of primer from the trunk of my Caddy. Problem is I tend to ride with my feet on there and I am wondering If they are going to where fast, as it is now there pretty much just a white plastic cover as all the paint is worn off.

Mine were painted with Rustoleum universial flat spray paint last spring. So far they are holding up fine. I lightly sanded the plastic pieces and cleaned them with Windex before they were painted.

Hey toddrw, how'd you go about painting the rearview mirrors? just tape them off? Mine are rusty as all get-out and I was gonna do the black paint, but I thought it would look bad. Yours turned out well, so I'll probably spray mine sooner or later. I wonder what it would look like on my scoot since I still have the chrome other stuff... probably alright since my handgrips are black I guess.

I removed them from the bike and taped up the mirror and the threads. Had to sand them to rough up the chrome and rust spots. It took quite a few coats, but they turned out pretty well. You have to be careful when reinstalling them b/c the wrench can mar up the paint pretty easily. Seems like no matter what you do you will get some paint on the mirror, but it comes right off with a razor blade. Good luck!

Finally got around to painting my foot rests. I used self etching automotive primer.Unfortunalty the flash from my camera makes them look gray and doesn't do my hard work justice
