Florida Panhandle Scooterists (Mobile, AL-Tallahassee)

Post by GFRphoto »

Looking for those of you in the Florida Panhandle who are interesting in perhaps meeting up sometime. I started http://www.PanhandleScooters.com in attempts to bring things together. I'm based out of Pensacola - but really I'm looking for people from Mobile, AL to Tallahasse to get involved. Could do a big ride on parts of HWY98 once or twice a year; with lots of other more localized events happening every month or so.

There is a dealer in Pensacola, selling the Genuine Scooters - currently I own a cheap Chinese scoot - I think my next scoot will be a Buddy though. Sexy little scooters.

I'm in.

If you want to ride with us you can... We ride out of Pensacola Motorsports once or twice a month and go wherever. Sounds like you are already familiar with them? We actually have another ride next Friday, August 8th. Nothing big, just riding around town and going to Steak n' Shake. We will probably do some longer-distance rides when it cools off a bit. Pensacola Scooter Army is our "tentative" name, as we are currently in the process of voting on a new one. There are quite a few members and we don't discriminate against chinese scoots! Everyone is welcome to join!

Sounds fun

Post by GFRphoto »

Yeah I knew there was a group based with the Pensacola MotorSports place. I actually went there to buy a Buddy only to show up and find out there was only 2 scooters in the store, 2 Stella's and no buddy's... And a full page of waiting lists :shock: So I figured I'd chinese it this time.. Make sure its something I really want to do and keep doing... And so far I'm hooked. Its great, fun.

I haven't made a trip over the bridge yet (live in Gulf Breeze) but I plan to make that trip soon.

So the group takes a trip from the store to a location and break from there? Or Store to Location to Store?

We usually ride to some place (generally food-related), then some people might go home, but some keep riding. Often those of us who participate in "after rides" go a lot farther, and usually a bit faster... then break off wherever we decide. I prefer going slower myself, but I'm always up for some bonus riding!

I've been over to Gulf Breeze & back a couple times, it's not so bad. People talk about going over the bridge like you're crossing the border to another country or something. If you go when traffics not too bad its really quite nice. Don't worry that you didn't get your scooter from PMS, most of us didn't... We just meet there cuz I knew the guys that worked there and I asked them if we could use it as a scooter ride launch point and they said absolutely! Very nice guys there, Jimmy comes to most of the rides and Mark and his girlfriend have started coming now that they have scoots. I hope you are able to meet up with us sometime! :mrgreen:

By the way, lets see a pic of your scooter!

My Xingyue ITA 150T-7 Super Charge

I need to get some better photos of it, with some scenery... I haven't really been taking my camera with me though when I go on rides.

I think making it across the bridge will be fine for me. Its the stuff on the other side. I lived in Pensacola for 3 years and no one could drive there lol - that's what scares me most. But I'm still new to the road, perhaps as I drive more my confidence will build more and it wont be anything I think about.

Hey GFRphoto! Welcome to MB.com!!

Tell me more about your scooter... I'm in South Florida and those things are all over the place. Well, to clarify, cheap Chinese scoots are all over the place but that's the only one that makes me look twice. I've tried to find info on it but can't. Is it really just another "cheap Chinese scoot" (to quote your post) or is it better than the others? How long have you had it/how many miles/any problems?

Well its a Xingyue, one of the many differently named but same scooter as the next its an 150T-7 - GY6 engine (or clone). Several brands make the same body/scooter...

CFMOTO makes one called the echarm 150 - same body but better specs. It has EFI and some other added features it runs about $2950 Looks just about identical to mine.

Mine cost me $1650 - although I've seen them as low as $1299 (probably the price it should be without the scooter hype inflation).

Mine is still new - new to get the tags on it too. I've been driving it on the highway only this week. I have about 170 miles on it (however there may be some debate on whether my my odometer reads in km or miles... to be determined).

Of course there are all sorts of chinese scoots out there, as I'm sure you know - would take forever to name all the different brands, the changes they do from one manufacturer from another... There is a parent company that produces these scoots and other's like it and then several factories that assemble them. The assembly is where they differ... Perhaps one brand may use 10" tires, the next 13", one may use some cheapo exhaust, the next may use some nice one.

I hang out at ScootDawg.com in the forums a lot - its not a 'chinese scooter' forum however I'd say 80% or more of the guys in there seem to have a chinese scoot of some form.

So far I've had just minor issues. Scuffs from shipping on non-important parts. Had to change out the grips. Had a leak in my gear box oil after changing that - fixed it real easy though.

Was a breeze to register/title it. Some people claim in some states they have some issues with some chinese brands.

So far I'm happy. And I'm learning some engine stuff as I go. But even with all the work you may do to change out some cheap chinese parts (oil, hoses, fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs) you won't reach $3500 or 6000 like the Vespa tags. But I seriously doubt my scoot would last as long (at least not without some major engine replacements) as a Buddy or Vespa. But at the price its nearly disposable in a vehicle sense.

Cool thanks for the info. Yeah, I know about the Chinese scoot thing and the different models, etc. I saw some info about the ITA 150 over at scootdawg a while back but not too much.

I was mainly curious because I've seen a few close up and fit and finish wise they seem pretty decent.

Hope it serves you well, but also hope you get a Buddy someday too! :wink:

Yes, I've noticed that every time I cross into Gulf Breeze the drivers there are so kind and considerate. Not like those beginners in Pensacola.
:mrgreen: Just kidding. Come ride with us Friday night.

I think instead of Steak N Shake we should ride to the beach and eat at Surfburger or get a fish basket at the pier. Or not. Hey Krusty, whaddaya think? Jimmy wants to get one or two milk shakes at SnS. :D

That's right about the ride after the ride. There are always a few who want to go further and faster and further and further and further. I've been told that to mention an overnighter is dangerous as some of these folks will jump right up and miraculously exhiblit camping gear and be ready to go!

Hah - not that people in Gulf Breeze drive any better, but its just a straight shot (at least for me) its all the potential blind turns, and intersections that I'd come across in P'cola that has me worried - however, I've been putting more more miles on my scoot and and already getting more comfortable. I put about 45-48miles on it Sunday going from my house to both ends of the beach and back.

I may have to make the journey across the bridge for some grouping there. I really want to get together with people who ride. As I am the only person I know who has a scoot :D I keep going on these little trips all by myself and end up just going home because sitting by the bay with your scooter isn't fun very long.

Umm... no changing the game plan. Once you start changing things, people get confused and then disgruntled, and then go home. Y'know, I'm not referencing any specific instance... :roll: ...

So S'n'S was NOT Jimmy's idea, it was Mark's, and I seconded!!! I loves me some shakes. Plus, PMS is gonna catch the tab (to a degree, don't quote me on this).

Anyways, me & my folks and Jason & Jill ride around Gulf Breeze like maybe once a week or so. We rode around Navarre last night and ended up seeing Jimmy and 2 other scooter guys hangin' at the Bayfront on the way back. We rode with them for a couple miles. Jimmy was on that Big Ruckus he's trying to sell for someone and one guy had a Vino 125 and the other had a '79 P125X. The dude was bummed that his Vino will only go like mid 50's and mine will go mid 60's! 8)

He said it was his "wife's" scooter. good one dude... :lol:

Ha! I'm riding the Vino today. It seems my wife has taken over the Buddy completely. I need to get out for some night rides around town more often.

Yeah, I hear ya about game plan changes. Just keep it in mind for the future. Also, how about a seaside to mountain top ride, Florida style. Start at the beach and ride to the highest point in Florida, eat at the restaurant on the corner in Florala and ride home. Should be a full day. The high point is between Florala and Paxton. Probably about a 200-250 mile day. I'll bet Jamie would go in a heartbeat. :D

Free food???? Yeah, all right! Let's see, my wife, both kids, the dogs, my cousins from out of town, the in laws, outlaws, might have to borrow a couple of scoots. :mrgreen:

Is there a place where the scooter ride info is posted?

Or what time is everyone meeting up at Pensacola Motorsports?

Wanted to post a formal thread on my forum site (http://www.pensacolascooters.org / http://www.panhandlescooters.com)

Why ride only on Friday nights? I don't get home until 9:00...

Can we please ride on a Saturday or Sunday? I have 10 Tanks and my wife and two children ride with me.

Actually, our first two rides were Saturdays, it was Sunday last time and Friday now. I think we will do another Saturday ride in a couple weeks. Hey, I'm off the 16th!!! Wanna make plans?! :mrgreen:

You guys prefer AM or PM? Personally, if we are riding somewhere scenic I prefer daytime... specifically early morning when it's not as hot. I imagine we'll do more mid-day rides in the fall.

I'll be off after 2 or 3-ish. I can find out tonight if anyone else wants to do something tomorrow. We'll have to pick a meet-up point... Where are you located? Is P'cola Motorsport good for you?

Well at least I got to meet some of you guys at the Steak n Shake - next ride I'll bring the scoot.

I told a couple of people there there about my site - PensacolaScooters.org

I was hoping to get the 'Pensacola Scooter Army' a designated forum up if you guys wanted. Could be admins and such - can make it private or public.

Anyway it goes its a more localized forum for area events! All free of course.

I know I've found people from Pensacola on ScootDawg.com, ScooterDivas, here and some yahoo groups. My goal with my website was to help unify the people into an easy to find site - I really want to get out and ride with people!

Guests do only have limited access and shouldn't be able to post anything, much less photos. Guests can't even see photos. This is some kind of hack of the forum software, but I haven't been able to figure out a fix. I have a couple mods which may fix the problem, but these ghost users don't even show up as guests. Grrr.

Sorry you had to see one of these rather graphic posts.

There was some pretty graphic advertisements for a porn website. - And by pretty graphic I mean nothing held back on them :/

But it was taken care of quickly- I'd not like to have any families browsing local scooter rides and then flash little johnny and susie some x-rated materials! ;-)

Okay the Fairhope ride is scheduled for tomorrow (Satudurday) morning. Let's meet at the Winn-Dixie on the corner of Sorrento and Gulf Beach Hwy. In case you don't know where that is, it's point "A" on this map. We will probably ride somewhere along those lines.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Saturday, August 16th
Winn-Dixie parking lot
Meet there at 9:30 am
Ride to Fairhope, AL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

See you there!

Just gonna put it out there again, for the Pensacola Area guys, if you wanted to check out the PensacolaScooters.org site - I've dropped the page part of it, and just made it a forum. Hoping we can get some meet-ups and rallies, and rides and such going on. I've even made a separate forum for the Pensacola Scooter Army - for group postings etc. Which I can give someone admin access to that forum for pruning or what not.
