FIRST ANNUAL MIDWINTER SCOOTER RIDE & SANDIA CREST CHALLENGE!!!

The Duke City Scooter Club is planning a great ride for Saturday January 24, 2009, this ride is open to all riders and scooters but 125cc or better is suggested in order to maintain at least 40mph on 66 & North 14.

STAGE 1: This ride will meet at 4 Hills Chevron (Central and Tramway) at 10am the ride will then leave at 10:30am. We will ride east on Central to Old 66 north then to North 14 to Coffee At Dawn for warm drinks and socializing. (Stage 1 = est. 22 miles round trip)

STAGE 2 (the challenge!): Depending on the wind, road and weather conditions - Safety First! The brave few that chose to continue to Sandia Peak which has an elevation of 10,000+ feet! We will leave from Coffee At Dawn around tentatively around noon. (Stage 2 = est. 14 miles round trip - ICE DANGER!!!)

Fine Print

Due to the variable and possibly distant destinations; some of the rides are only open to bikes and riders that can ride maintain 40+ miles per hour nominal (not downhill with wind at your back).

As always, be prepared…

Bring what you feel is appropriate cold weather gear AND remember that riding in cold weather is even more dangerous than riding in warm weather, please don’t ride outside your comfort level or take unnecessary risks!

For safety…

Always be sure to start the ride on a FULL tank of gas, check your tire pressure and tread wear! Have your bikes tool kit handy, bring oil for your 2-stroker, a spare tire or tube if possible, a roll of Duct Tape ® (lights can and do fall off!) & bring a cell phone and the phone number of your Road Side Assistance Program!!

You should also Google "motorcycle hand signals" just to familiarize yourself with them.
