Scooter rental rates... wth?
Say you're traveling and you dont want to rent a car at your destination.... naturally youd rather rent a scooter. Well I did some research and scooter rentals in Seattle are roughly 3x the price of car rentals, even with scooters being 1/6 the cost of a car. What am I missing here?

The cost of insuring the riders. Scooters are more dangerous than cars.thehypercube wrote:Say you're traveling and you dont want to rent a car at your destination.... naturally youd rather rent a scooter. where are you wanting to rent? The Big Island and Kauai are way too expensive, but Oahu is pretty reasonable-the last couple times we went we paid about $35 a day each for a 50cc.
They were well used but sturdy. A bubu one year and a sym the next.
On the big island, they were renting honda's for $70 a day. RIP OFF! esp since there is no way I am ridin' 2 up- I need my own. They should rent them for cheaper to licenced MC riders. We probably won't wreck them

Isn't insurance for most rented vehicles at the discretion of the rider? Its the major upsell at least at car rental agencies.Kaos wrote:The cost of insuring the riders. Scooters are more dangerous than cars.

I rented a scoot 7-8 summers ago in Chintique, don't think it cost more than $35 for the day, I don't remember. It was a 50cc Moskito. My lady and I rode 2 up (about 325 lbs +/- combined) That is where I got 'bit by the scooter bug' WHAT a blast we had! I remember her telling me it looked as I'd "never un-smile" again! After thet I learned about the Stella, bought my honda, now I have the Buddy, I'm STILL smiling! I LOVE scootering, and oh yeah, I love her too!
