POC B.A.B.E. Rally Call to Action!!

Post by djelliott »

Hey there folks. Awhile back I posted that myself, POC Phil, and our friend Shane are participating in an event called BABE Rally or the Big Apple to the Big Easy Rally. A five day Street Safari event that goes from NYC to New Orleans. Well , the time has come. We leave for Statton Island on Sunday (May 31) and the race begins Monday (June 1st) morning. For more info visit http://www.baberally.com/index.esp .

OK, now here's the fun part. We procured ourselves a Van for the event. Which means we are packing it with three scooters (two buddies and a Rattler) and setting off to meet as many scooter folks as we can on this trip. I know there must be some of you living near the stops we'll be making and we'd like to meet and ride and most likely get drunk with you. The following are a list of the hotels we'll be staying at and the dates. you can also track us via our blog http://www.pocbaberally.com and we'll post often right here on MB in this thread to round you folks up and have a good time.

God speed you black emperors, if you were coming through Nashville I'd put you up myself, but unfortunately you'll be too far east among the mountain folk. Have a great time!

It's a shame you guys aren't swinging by Richmond instead of Harrisonburg. Especially since it's a Monday evening. :(

yes sir. That's the idea. I'll be bringing my Powerbook so I can write updates and create the blog postings while we're driving. At any stop I can catch a wifi signal I'll hit update. If not it'll get updated when we get to the hotels. Phil and I have iPhones for on the road MB posting as well.

What? Works great on Android phones. I post to MB from mine all the time :P

Good luck Dj and Phil! Bring the Voodoo!
Oh, I can post okay from iPhone Safari.

The optimized site is super-cool, though. Loads fast, columns are all scaled for viewing on phone, posting window is a more amenable size. Maybe I'll post screen caps. (Um… can an Android phone do screen caps without having to download the SDK or get root access on the phone? Huh. Weird.)
Actually you can do screen-caps without being root. But the app assumes you're running the G1, which has a slightly higher screen resolution than MY android phone.

Oops. I tried to pull our iPhone/Android digression into its own thread and just screwed it up, leaving an orphan post (above) behind. We can split, but not merge threads or posts. Sorry, Kaos! Mea culpa!

Depends on if I can get an oil filter this weekend. My scoot's been grounded this week because I'm due for an oil change :(

That's 2 hours up rt 33... not too bad. I wouldn't be doing any drinking, sadly... stupid work next day :(

My Genuine brothers!! that looks like an epic journey and a kick azz ride!!

Day 1 brings you right past me. I'm probably 2.5-3 hours from Staten Island & you look to be crossing through Delaware about 15 minutes south of me. I doubt I can time it right to link up for a ride along but if there's anything you need early on Day 1 I'll make myself available for an emergency pit stop. I'll gladly PM you my cell# and provide any local knowledge/support I can. I suppose you have a driver for the van so you're self supporting but if there's anything you need of forgot out of the chute I'll help any way I can.

I cant wait to hear this road story as it unfolds.

You kidding me? A chance to meet several MB members, the (in)famous POC Phil, and one of the Voodoo guys in person...all in one shot? I'll try to run into ya'll in Newport, TN. It's closer to me than Murphy. :D

I guess just follow the blog to get an idea of when ya'll are gonna be rolling into town, then. Good excuse for a ride, but if I run into you don't expect me to be drinking. (I'll bring money to buy a round, though. ;) )

All right thanks to the BSS (of which I am also a member) for taking the second shift! I hope your livers can keep up... I'm not so sure about mine, as it is an early morning in the lab for me!

Looks like the BABEsters won't have to pay for any beers Thursday night!

Sorry, bumpy van and an iPhone make typing a challenge.

It was awesome being able to run into you three in Newport. Thanks again for the excuse for a 150-mile ride!

Ok, so I just wanted to see how you guys were doing, and then I got curious about the rally and read the rules. Did you actually get that van for under $500? So what is the plan at the end, does the whole van come back, or do you sell it off and ride back, or do you drive until the van dies, scrap it and then ride back? Just curious!!

Well, my oil does seem to be burning off. I'm getting that checked and changed Saturday.

Umm, that sounds like something is leaking internally. That could be very bad.

Pre -mountain ride Saturday it was like 3/4 up the stick. Today it's 1/2. it's lost 1/2 a stick over the last 700miles. No noticeable performance difference so I'm taking it easy (no extra side trips) so that I can take her in to the mechanic who knows her well. Fingers crossed. :)
