The Buddys have only been in the US market for 3 years, but they've proven very reliable. One member, BoneGirl, has hit 28K miles in under 2 years. Others have topped the 20K mark.
We don't yet know just how far one will go because they're still going. The ones that aren't have been crashed, had been modified somehow or there was an error in maintenance (most commonly, not tightening oil filter to spec).
Overall, according to dealers, reliability is as good as Japanese makes and other top Taiwanese makes. Anecdotally, the Buddy is at least as reliable as my Vespa and cheaper to fix and maintain.

Mileage
Sweet guys and gals. I am buying a 2008 black buddy 125 with 578 miles on the clock. The guy said he wired his dummy lights in front for turn signals and added a luggage rack, performance tires, and an aftermarket shock. So, I am stoked... I own motorcycles but did not know the durability of the Genuine scoots. Thanks for all of your time. Glad to be a part of ModernBuddy.com

[quote="bluebuddygirl"]And just in case you are wondering how much you can ride in one day. I know others have done more, but Friday I rode 4 1/2 hours to go camping, and then today rode the 4 1/2 hours back. ( I stopped to eat on the way back though )[/quote
I've been with people doing 9 or 10 hours on a Buddy in one day. You can ride the heck out of it as long as you take breaks to let it cool down roughly every 100 miles (or one gas tank worth of miles) or so.

Be prepared for your motorcycles to start gathering some dust. My poor Bonneville Black is starting to look beige...one of the these days I really should leave the scoot at home and take the motorcycle for a ride.JohnGarc wrote:Sweet guys and gals. justs keeps going and going and going...
Now at 31,200 miles and still going strong. I had to replace the Fuel Gauge at 29,999! So if that's the worst problem I've had so far, I say we're doing great!

I never "abuse" my bike. I do ride the heck out of it, though (obviously). As far as "hard" on it... same thing, I ride it all the time. I max the speed limit a lot on big rides. But I don't rev the engine or gun the motor or any of that stuff. I insist to people they have to maintain their bikes. If you want to know all the gory details, see my post:JasonCT wrote:I would think it would come done to abuse.
How hard are you on it? Do you take the time to maint. it?
Just my thoughts.

40K
Today I turned the Buddy over the 40K mark. What a great little scoot! I think it's been 6 months since 30K.

Re: 40K
very cool. I love the updates. I am thinking there cannot be many (or none thus far) racking up so many miles. since the buddy is still new to the US I suspect we will be seeing more great tallies.BoneGirl wrote:Today I turned the Buddy over the 40K mark. what kind of tires are you using, esp in the rear? I have 7600 miles but still am not quite ready to replace...next year maybe.

Funny,
I was just wondering where you were at with miles, and lo and behold there you were. Amazing. I am jealous. I freak some of the die hard motorcycle guys when I tell them I have ridden 8500 on the scooter. Would love to be able to throw 40 K in their faces when they ask why I don't ride a "real bike".
