New FTC Rules for Posting Reviews Online

Post by MarsR »

Something on the news this morning caught my attention. It seems that the Federal Trade Commission has new rules for celebrities and bloggers who endorse products and services. I just now came across this article about it and thought I would share.

The main reason for sharing it on this forum is that people occasionally post product reviews here, so I thought that everyone should know the new rules. I realize that most of us don't really qualify as celebrities, but I think that is beside the point. If you have a product review for us, please share! I think good reviews really help us all. Just be sure to let us know if you are being compensated for it in some way. Thanks!

Sorry, the first link I posted didn't show the whole article, so I had to find a different one. Click on the same link above to read it.

The gist of it for most people is that if someone gives you a product to review, you have to say in the review that they gave it to you. A bit of overkill IMHO, but the idea is to help people tell the difference between an unbiased opinion, and one that's influenced by freebies.

I'd feel weird using "Windows" and "rocks" in the same sentence too (unless it also included the verb "to throw"). :P

Yeah it does, doesn't it.

The first article I posted a link to included a line about people who give testimonials in which their results are "not typical". I guess they now have to also say what "typical" results are. YESSS!!!
