[NSR] So what is this?

Post by rajron »

I’ve seen it several places, is it some sort of secret code, or a pigment of my imagination?

It's the new improved barcode. You see them a lot on shipping waybills.

Soon you'll be able to use your phone to interpret these new bar codes:

You already can! Check the date on that story. 2007, but not an April Fool's joke. I used mine on a movie poster to get a free download or something like that. They're also using them in some magazine ads.

It's the 2D version of a barcode.

Only a matter of time before they go 3D (holofoil).

I feel so behind the time.

Hey Kaos;
Can I read the codes with my Droid? How? – not really sure why I want to read codes, but if I can might has well do so.

You sure can. Hop on the market and search for "scanlife", thats just one of many barcode apps that'll run on the Droid. That one can do all the major types. For instance. The barcode you posted is a link to ScooterDave's website, and when scanned will open a browser with that site.

Not at all. I just look up useless info most my waking hours. It's one of the benefits to having a job that requires very little thought or focus.

The bar code is of a plain txt message with three tiny url links to a photo web hosting site with pictures of the three scooters in my life as of now - I see my self playing with this thing for about a day or so more; then off to something else, most likely as usless but temporarly entertaining
