An odd comparison, but I think I kind of see what they're getting at.
I was recently interviewed for a story about Genuine and was asked about the current scooter culture and Harley culture. The two are often held up as two opposite extremes but as I've said before, I think there are a lot of similarities… maybe more than differences. _________________ Eric // Flickr group // LA Scooter Meetup Group // twitter: @scooterism

I agree, more similarities than differences.
A month or so ago, I walked into a grocery store carrying my helmet. Waiting in line to check out, a grey beard in his leather riding jacket asked me what I was riding. I told him a 125cc scooter. His response: "Enjoy it, brother," and went on to explain that because of the crappy economy, he had been forced to sell his Harley which he had been riding for 16 years. That truly sucks. _________________ Clearly.

It's true! They're both socially reprehensible clones who can't think for themselves, trying to out-do each other in a race to cartoonishly emulate a half-century-old teenage fad that they don't even understand.
On the 'differences' side, one is effeminate and one is masculine, though I'd say they're both overcompensating in the opposite direction.

I have found that the older Harley riders are cool with anyone who rides. No matter what it is your riding. Wether it be a crotch-rocket or a scoot, it's about the riding.
It's the younger Harley riders, and week-end warrior douche bags who are "too cool" to even speak to anyone. _________________ The good news is that Jesus is coming back. The bad news is that he's really pissed off.

Ha, in the mods vs. Harley people category, yes.
I meant in the more generic "scooter riders" as opposed to "Harley riders" sense. As I said in a thread over on MV, I think a major difference is that scooterists are less capable of shrugging off every insult and slight that comes their way from either the ignorant masses or that devil of a scapegoat, the media.
I could be wrong. It's quite possible that on Harley forums, there are many threads whining about their depiction as thuggish, crude, hirsute, leather-clad tough guys. "I mean… I'm a dentist! I'm not like that at all!" _________________ Eric // Flickr group // LA Scooter Meetup Group // twitter: @scooterism

Wow, I guess it takes an incredibly arogant person to generalize an entire group of people. The skins I grew up with just wanted to hang out listen to ska, reggae and Mo-town, drink red stripe, and be left alone, oh and ride scooters but hey if you want to pull a Geraldo Revera thats kool. _________________ I have a love hate relationship with my 2 yr warranty

sorry around here (where I live, not MB) I'm used to this sort of attitude being fairly common. As you can tell, its become a bit of a sore spot. _________________ I have a love hate relationship with my 2 yr warranty

Yeah, I've noticed that a lot as well. I was screaming down the freeway last sunday and a LARGE group of old guys riding Harleys(at least 30 of them) were getting off at the same exit as I was. I ended up kinda in the middle of their group. They also went through town along the same route I did. At one light 5 or so of them clustered around me to ask the usual, "How fast was that thing going?!" and a bunch of other scooter questions. Turns out they were a local Veteran's Harley club and were doign a big group ride. They invited me to come along, but unfortunately I had other plans (Was makin chicken nuggets with the kiddo!) and couldn't go along.
But they were more than happy to invite a lone scooter pilot along just as long as I could keep up _________________ Checkout Voodoo Buddy for current mods.

A few Saturday's ago, I rode my Buddy to Cook's Corner, which is Orange County's biker bar hangout with literally hundreds of motorcycles there every weekend. Picture Vagos, Hessians and other local biker "clubs" all wearing their colors but seeming to get along.
Would you be shocked to hear I was the only scooter there? The only comments I heard were that I was crazy for riding a scooter but no one gave me a hard time. Based on that experience, I would say that most Harley riders are generally cool with us.
