Break in.. How fast is half throttle?
I'm having a blast with my buddy but I want to make sure to break the motor in correctly. I know that the book says not to go past half throttle for like 100 miles so how fast is half throttle. I know it depends on weight hills etc. so lets just "assume" 175 lbs on flat terrain. Hmm...that kinda sounds like me in South Florida! Thanks all!

about 30mph on level ground..............However, you might want to consider an alternative breakin......ie.........half throttle for about 8 blocks then harder throttle for about 8 and rinse and repeat throught your rides if you can.......This helps really set the piston rings by heating them up then cooling it down just a bit to reset.
You don't wanna get mixed up with a guy like me. I'm a loner Dottie, a REBEL.

Luckily, it seems like I'm braking in MYSELF as a n00b rider the same as I'm supposed to break in my new scooter. I took it slowpokey for the first 500 miles, pretty much just commuting to work and tooling around Philly. But then I went on a super-duper hahdcowah ride all over Bucks County, resplendent with "twisties" and stretches of 50mph+ roads. O, and I finally gave it full throttle up a couple of hills. So yeah, I guess Pinky & Leather Tuscadero are both broken in now, eh?

Don't worry about this soft break-in stuff. Maybe that mattered 30 years ago, but not today.

pocphil once broke in a brand new Buddy by riding it on the Lake Erie Loop. The story can be found here:iheartsf wrote:I had no idea a scooter had a break-in period until reading these posts. I've been riding it for about a month, have about 600 miles and have definitely reached and maintained the 65mph range.
I guess we'll see what happens? So far he's still running smooooooth.
