Post by Croatoan »

I was wondering if anyone had any tips or company recommendations regarding shipping my Buddy 125 from Raleigh, North Carolina to Hilo, Hawaii.

2 companies I found that transport by shipping container. You'd have to get a quote from NC, but it's roughly $800 from San Diego. Good luck and let us know when you get a total quote from NC, just curious.

maybe try uship.com?

I used it for shipping our 2 scooters from 'bama to oregon. we had a really good experience with our shipper. basically there's tons of shippers on there, and they submit offers to you, and then you can pick the company you want to use.

Yes, that is my scooter.
Yes, I wear a helmet and a FIRSTGEAR armored jacket.
No, I'm not embarrassed to be seen riding it.
Yes, that is an NRA sticker on the fender.

There are no freeways on the Big Island, which is weird, since it is bigger. But there are dramatically fewer people.

What I am not looking forward to is getting caught in the rain on the windward side where I used to live. I don't care how hard you have see it rain, you have never seen Puna rain.

Anyway, I put a few quotes out, we'll see.

Thank God there are no freeways on any other Island. Oahu is pretty much just a major city with a few mountains breaking it up. Beautiful yes, but very overpopulated. Hawaii (big island) is too beautiful to ruin with freeways. Love the rain btw. Once I'm soaked to the bone, I love riding in a downpour.

Yeah, I have caged around the island quite a few times, but I rented a scoot on Oahu once and that was much more fun.

If you are interested in looking at about 2000 photographs of Hawaii:

that would probably become a regular event for me, pack some raingear, maybe a tent and bag, then stop at different towns for food. What's is the mileage in 1 lap?

350 Miles will let you see most of the island, but not Saddle Road which bisects the island near Mauna Kea would be the most fun and the most white knuckle part of the ride. Mostly because people drive like freaks up there.

And going up into Volcano could kill you if the wind is bad. Really.

well good luck out there when you go. Is it a permanent move, or temporary? the big island looks very rural from "google earth", so hopefully you meet up with other riders and not get discouraged from riding. I wouldn't know where to begin with all that scenery, which trail to hike first, or mountain to climb.
