Project: BIG BAD VOODOO BUDDY
So, its happened. I've gone off the deep end.
I got a incredible deal on this:
<img src="http://www.voodoo-buddy.com/vespa-motor.jpg">
Yes, that is infact the engine from a 2007 Vespa GTS 250.
Yes, it is infact going to go into my Buddy.
I'll have the world's first Voodoo Buddy GTS 250.
Stay tuned for more info and pictures when the motor shows up in a few days.

Yeah, that's true. What are you figuring the top speed will be with this build, any ideas? I'm assuming that you're shooting for triple digits so long as you can find some tires that will hold up to those speeds.Kaos wrote:Well, official top speed of a GTS is 80mph. The Buddy is a LOT lighter though.jasondavis48108 wrote:I don't know, I think as long as you can get tires rated for the higher speed you'll be fine. I would guess that stock, the engine wouldn't go much faster than your already clocked 88mph.

I just wonder if these plastics are good for that torque. Are those other bikes held together with little tabs far and few between? how much more torque does that have? it's top speed is pulling something that weighs 150lbs more. so it'll be way faster in such a light frame. I just wonder if that light frame can really support the torque. We see how much vibration the buddy gets with just 161cc - it's shaking pipes loose!Kaos wrote:I can understand that with the 10" wheels, but why the plastics? There's plenty of bikes FAR more powerful than that that are plastic. Like the 900+cc street bikes for example.jijifer wrote:I don't think the plastics of a buddy nor the 10" wheels are a good idea with an engine that size.

The front fairing on my friend's GSX-R is held on almost exactly like the Buddy's so I THINK it'll be ok.jijifer wrote:I just wonder if these plastics are good for that torque. The GTS is rated at 25HP at 16.2FT/LBS torque, vs a STOCK 125's 9.5HP (no idea what the torque is)
So I may have to do some frame reenforcement. We'll see once I start getting things installed.

I'm not yet sure about the wheel splines, I'm hoping as I'd like to keep the 10" wheel. The full wiring harness, electronics, and radiator are included, so I just need to get a pipe, and maybe a wheel.NASRA wrote:Yea no worries Kaos the frame will hold up just fine under that motor. However I wonder if the wheel splines line up from the buddy. Are all the electronics and radiator included in the sale?

Re: cannot wait
Still waiting for all the parts to get here. And I had to order the engine mount as the person I ordered the engine from didn't have one.monamibuddy wrote:K,

It’s a small Vespa with a big motor.
How is your project coming along?

Something occurred to me... where are you going to stuff the radiator so that it gets air?

I've got two thoughts on that. I've got the oil cooler bracket kicking around from a 150, so I may mount it underneath the body where the oil cooler would be. The other option is to run it all the way to the front and install it under the front plastics.Lostmycage wrote:Something occurred to me... where are you going to stuff the radiator so that it gets air?

Are you keeping your buddy orange or are you planning to paint it. I know it is a little off topic:)

I'm really good at that whole 'blending in' thing. Ask my wife, I'm two bolts short of batty with my vehicles(And most other things...)
