Mounting an apple crate to stella

Post by Animina »

Hi everyone! I just mounted a rear rack to Stella and now am thinking of adding on a vintage apple crate. I have the P fancy rack and the crate measures 17.5 x 14.5. There is a little overhang, but not too much to rule out using the crate. Any advice on how to attach it so that it is secure? This is a crate with no slats, I guess I would have to drill?

Drilling and attaching with through-bolts will offer the most secure mounting. Go to the electrical section of the hardware store and look for conduit clamps.

Also, you should post a pic. :)

Another thought is to wrap those conduit clamps with electrical tape, and put a thin sheet of foam liner between the rack and the box. It will dampen vibration and spare your rack (and crate) from wear and tear. Make sure you use some large diameter washers where the bolts pass through the wooden crate to avoid cracking; you may want to use rubber washers as well to serve as dampeners.
Clearly.
