If I can get one without the graphics... THAT is badass!laxer wrote:
Full face, looks great, good to go.
Honestly I do have an open face as well as a full face. I've got a funky shaped head and EVERY fullface I own has my chin scraping the front. To me that's not very safe and quite uncomfortable. So, during the summer I admit to sporting the open face. BUT, I do try to get one every season that has the most coverage to make up for it. That and in Arizona any airflow is good airflow

Of course, without that DOT decal, you may be talking yourself out of a ticket (or not, adding to the $517 total).
.
Thanks... I'll stick with a MOMO design helmet if I get hard up for another pilot style helm.

the Roof boxer V8 is a helmet i would love to own. i have only found one place that would ship to the states. and the 500+ price tag is accurate. crazy but accurate. the boxer has quite a few reviews about safety and the gist of them say the French are lazy and pompous about the regulations. they have independent studies that place them at or above the DOT standard. having said that, if am able to buy one i will visit ebay for the DOT stickers. the boxer comes without graphics but not the V8.

Much like designer watches, some shoes, sunglasses, luggage and so many other things these helmets are made by a helmet company that produces lids for other brands. My guess is New Max in Italy, which produces helmets for Vespa, Momo (see KRUSTYBurger's post above), Borsalino, Laura Smith and a bunch of other companies.Chilly wrote:It's pretty, but not sure I want a pretty designer jean company protecting my head. And the price is just silly. Pass.
Doesn't mean this is a good helmet (I have no idea), but it shouldn't be dismissed simply because it has a Diesel label on the back.
If I had the money and was inclined to wear an open face helmet, I'd happily drop a ridiculous load of dosh ($900 or so) on a Ruby Ateliers. They're stupidly opulent.

I have been using that AFX pilot helmet for a year now and I like it pretty good. It was only like 60 bucks @ MC Superstore... I wasn't really considering the MOMO before as its like a $400 helmet, but I tried it on and it is SOOOO much more comfortable than the AFX, I had to have it. Of course the woman was selling it for $150 so it was an easy decision. I was kind of waiting for the dog days of summer to pass before I start wearing it since my AFX is still in OK shape. I'll try to post a review of each with a comparison after I've worn it for a while.izark47 wrote:http://www.jafrum.com/Shop-By-Brand/AFX ... Flat-Black

While open face helmets aren't as safe as others (I know. I shouldn't wear 'em but still...) I ended up going a bit cheaper in price than the MOMO and got the Scorpion EXO-100

Not as sexy but the flip up visor makes it easy to put on glasses, and the $120 price tag helped. Scorpion makes good gear from all the reviews I read before buying and it is one of the few helmets that fit well. Sadly I can't wear their full face line

I got the same one, but in black and it says Zeus, not Momo. I got mine from Taiwan. My biggest issue is the wind noise, does that bother you as well? I don't want to keep putting in my silicon earplugs just to ride locally. I haven't been using it lately since I'm becoming more concerned about hearing loss. Maybe I just need to find better earplugs that go in and out quickly and easily.KRUSTYburger wrote:Just got me a new helmut @ the Tampa 2 Stroke rally...

Those boxer helmets are the coolest ever! Does anyone know where to buy one retail in the US? (Near Minneapolis)?
I've visited a bunch of scoot / moto shops and they all have a pretty standard collection of helmets that are all essentially the same shape. Some have different colors or graphics, but ... same helmet.
I would totally shell for and buy one of those Boxers online but I would be nervous about the sizing. I could easily fabricate a DOT sticker for it hehe ...

It's hard to buy some of the Euro, non-DOT helmets in the US. Nost of the non-DOT ones for sale are cheap novelty helmets. Selling hgh-priced lids that are illegal in many states is just too much of a pain and complex, etc.

Let me reword the question: How do I get a cool helmet like that? Are there any manufacturers in the US that sell a "pilot style, with the face that pulls down and looks like a robot"?ericalm wrote:It's hard to buy some of the Euro, non-DOT helmets in the US. Poorly worded, but I hope you see what I'm getting at.

Hmm ... thanks for the links, Eric. To me, the first one looks pretty normal/boring. The second one is pretty neat, but I don't think the bug-eye look is just right hehe!
