Engine Swap

Post by blurblaine »

Hey Techies ...

How hard would it be to swap a 220 engine into a 2006 Blur 150?

Just wondering what considerations and/or modifications would be needed to make this happen?

My Blur 150 engine is still just fine, but I'm curious is anyone has done this, looked into this, and has enough experience with both engine set-ups to chime in with some wisdom.

Maybe I should just get a 220si, but thought that an engine swap might be worth considering.

Most likely a nightmare, due to the FI. Possible, especially if you just junk the entire FI system and go with a carb, but not easy, nor quick I would think.

Good for you for trying though!

I'd think scoring a 220 engine would be the hard part.

Seems like mechanically, it'd be pretty easy, the cases and frame seem the same as far as I can tell. But yeah, you'd have to sort out the EFI or carb, and wiring might be tricky.

If you happen upon a donor 220i, be sure to get the fuel tank also because it may have provision for the pressure return line from the EFI. Oh, and you'll need the entire wiring harness.
