55 mph hash mark?

Post by rajron »

Anybody know why there is a red hash mark at 55 mph on the speedo?

For that matter did you know the 100ths place 0 on the odometer turns red after you read 1000 miles why?

Because that is (or was) the speed limit on many highways in the US? Many cars have the same thing.

Seems like we haven’t had the 55mph restrictions for a very long time so I would be a little surprised the hash mark is a reflection of that speed limit.
None of my cars, earliest 1997, have any marks on the 55.

I was thinking maybe it was a suggested cruising speed because the motor feels pretty strong and comfortable at that point.

You're not supposed to go above that mark during break-in.
Huh? What just happened?
