Anybody know why there is a red hash mark at 55 mph on the speedo?

Re: 55 mph hash mark?
Because that is (or was) the speed limit on many highways in the US? Many cars have the same thing.rajron wrote:Anybody know why there is a red hash mark at 55 mph on the speedo?

Seems like we haven’t had the 55mph restrictions for a very long time so I would be a little surprised the hash mark is a reflection of that speed limit.
None of my cars, earliest 1997, have any marks on the 55.
I was thinking maybe it was a suggested cruising speed because the motor feels pretty strong and comfortable at that point.
