Just about 75bmph on my Blackjack after installing the windshield. I take it on the highway for 8-10 miles semi-regularly now.

75 BMPH on a stock '09 Buddy 125, downhill with a tailwind. One flat ground no wind tops is usually 59-63 BMPH.

Next time you run down that same road, note your top speed, then turn around right away and note your top speed going in the opposite direction. Add the two numbers then divide by 2 and you'll have a pretty good approximation (in BMPH) of what your top speed would be on level ground with no wind. That's what the land speed record guys do to come up with their numbers.

That makes sense. The speeds you quote average to (75+50)/2 = 62.5 BMPH. BMPH are approximately 10% higher than actual, so 62.5 / 1.10 = 56.8 mph. That sounds realistic to me.

Anybody else ever try a two-way run to see how the numbers shake out?

Ditto, for downhill with both of my Buddy 125s (no tailwind needed

). But typically have 70-72 bmph on a straightaway.

No engine mods, but both do have windshields.

No mods '09 Italia150; on the flat, no wind, windshield and good road; 68 by GPS. 72 GPS on 0.5% down grade. Fast enough on 10" wheels!

Totally! It is getting a bit more tired as it gets older—over 25K miles now—but it's still got that Genuine spirit!

All the more reason to punch it now, as we age together. I'm going to attempt the up and down measurement as I have a 2000' elevation gain to work and loose 2000' on the road down. BUT, hair pins down are way more radical going down and I wimp out on the side of safety. So, my question is: how does that factor in???

It totally factors in for me. It's only fun if you live to talk about it! Some days I am more adventurous than others. Some days I don't ride at all because I know I'm tired or my head isn't into it. Uphill or downhill I always respect the limits of safety.

I'm doing a ride tomorrow with a more than 7000' elevation change (great ride!). This is where I notice my scooter is not quite so robust at before. Once I get over 5000' my performance suffers more than it used to. Perhaps it's just a tuning thing? All I know is at WOT I am working hard to maintain 40mph indicated. I'm thinking of bringing a magazine to read

NBR: I have twice buried the speedo on that LX since then. Surprised the hell out of me the first time. I've hit on the Stella—and that was downhill, wind at my back, 7th day of the 7th month…

68mph. usually it does not reach 65mph indicated, though. this is in a 150. pretty sure average top speed when riding in average conditions is 50- 55mph gps'd as i never see 60mph unless flying downhill. under 2000 miles on the scoot though so maybe a bit more time?

a bit underwhelming in top speed. it goes and climbs hills just fine, though

I never thought of it that way before. Here's what I thought....
"Holy Crap! These tires are only rated to 62mph. If a tire blows and I bite it at this speed, it's gonna hurt... BAD. Think I'll slow down a bit."

They are! Motorsport carries them, as do some online retailers. Moto-Amore is the distributor; many local shops can order them.

I am learning sooooooo much from this discussion. Thnx and luv it. After the San Louis ride did you go to McClintock's???? You certainly earned it!
I am REALLY aware of my speed now and the relationship of speed to tire. And even though I'm a downhill skier yesterday I realised that on my way down the hill I actually travel slower than my way up or on the flats. Because of so many hairpin turns and not knowing if there is an upcoming car I noticed that my speed going down was only 40 - 50. Coming up it's 40 - 50. On the lower altitude straight away I've done 60, but after reading assorted posts I am now aware of POTENTIAL hazards and am using other's experiences as my teacher and have slowed myself down. u r the best teachers!!!!

For me, it was the second to last day of CBR, we were spanning almost the entire length of Arizona from east to west. I was several miles past Payson, approaching the Cottonwood / Cape Verde valley. The decent out of the mountains was more then gradual, with a few gradual curves. Plenty of opportunity to bury the needle. I remember the speedo showing around 80, I was holding on for dear life! That was definitely the fastest part of the day, and when I checked my GPS tracker at the end of the day it showed my top speed of 73mph. What a rush!

Flat, no wind, max cruising speed is 67 BMPH = 60 MPH.

Mid windscreen
161 cylinder kit
big bore head
Prima exhaust
aftermarket coil and ignition

Fastest? over 70 BMPH...

But seriously, my lady hit a top speed of 63mph (actual) yesterday when I was following her on the CBR250R. It's the first time I've ever had to let off the throttle when following her on a parkway/highway. The speed limit was 50mph and I figured she was just showing off at that point. The Buddies perform ridiculously well for their size... I just wasn't willing to risk a ticket to keep up with her, ha

I've never used a GPS on mine yet, but I have hit an Indicated 70 on mine...after installing the Windshield. I upjetted a little after adding the Prima...and it runs good and strong, but I think it would pull more with the stock jet...It always seems to gain some speed when I back off the throttle just a tad....but I'm not completely positive....so it may just be a hair fat, flat out....

Took my portable Garmin GPS out of one of the cars and mounted it on my
2012 Buddy 170i today. Plugged into the elec.outlet and ran a test on the scoot. 0 to 20 was spot on. From there on it to 60bmph it was 4-6 mph slower than the nmph. Was actually doing 35 when the bmph was doing 45. at 50 bmph. At 55bmph actual was 50mph, and at 60bmph actual speed was 55.
Fast enough for me. Will take it to 65bmph once the engine has a few more miles on it. Actual 55 is quite comfortable and the 170i handles above my
expectations.
