(NBR) Bahamas Scooter Invasion!

Post by BuddyRaton »

The Palm Beach Scooter Club and Southeast Florida Scooters yahoo group staged a scooter invasion of the Bahamas on September 15!

It was a stealthy affair. We boarded the Bahamas Celebration cruise ship at the Port of Palm Beach on Friday and slowly made our way to Grand Bahama. It only takes about 90 minutes by boat...but to keep the element of surprise we took all night...yeah surprise...that's it...it had nothing to do with the casino or the on board clubs!

On Saturday moring we stormed ashore...OK...we kind of leisurly walked off the ship...and over to the invasion vehicle depot. Bob #2 of the PBSC had reserved 27 scooters. Yamaha Mio 125s and Jog 100s.

People on the island were great! Lots of waving and the drivers were very polite. We did get a bit of a shower in the early afternoon...but so what...it was on the way to a little beach fron reasturant where the Grouper fingers (I never knew groupers had fingers!) were some of the best I have ever had!

We did have one rider drop out. Larry from the rental place came to pick him and his scooter up. Now when it comes to scooters I don't impress easily. Larry had a gas can on the floorboard...took the rider two up on his scooter...reached over the second scooter with his left hand, grabbed the left grip and took off...I was impressed!

All in all we rode about 80 -100 miles and had a great time. I'm hoping we can do it again next year!

Here is a little video...not my best work but I hope you enjoy!

That is fantastic. getting 27 folks on ANY ride is impressive, but to get that many to go on a cruise THEN take a ride is mind boggling.

Well done Florida scooterists!

I think that this is might be an appropriate use for "inconceivable".
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Seriously...I've lost count...

Seven mopeds ...that's still manageable...

Wow that would be one expensive ride! You could call it the FCS Rally (fly, cruise, scoot).

Actually the cost was pretty reasonable. The cruise was like $130 for two nights and 5 meals. It's not a luxury ship, but everything was clean, the food was good and the staff great. Scooter rentals were $63 for the day and we spent about $6 for gas during the day. The scooters were good displacement yamahas, 125cc and 100cc so plenty for the 45 mph max speed limit. We had one scooter die after going over a really rough patch of road. Larry brought the truck this time and swapped it out. Turned out the ignition wire popped off the spark plug.

I also came out +$10 in the casino...not a big payday but hey...I had fun and made 10 bucks!

Way cool.......!!!!
Considering, for me at least, flights from HIA (Harrisburg, Pa) to Florida can be had for not much more than $100 these days it isn't an inconceivable idea.

Gas was about $6 a gallon. We had one "full" gas stop. After lunch and before we headed back we were all "Well...I think I have enough gas to get back before the ship leaves at 5:30"

What we did was find a little gas station (ok...almost all of them are little gas stations) Bob #2 manned the pump. We rolled up one at a time, popped the seat and opened the tank, Bob pumped in $2 worth, handed him two bucks and rolled out of the way for the next guy and Bob kept pumping without resetting the pump.

We gassed everyone up in less than 10 mins!
