Amerivespa 2013, Jun 27-30, San Diego! ALL SCOOTER RALLY.

Post by ericalm »

For the first time in a decade, the country's largest annual scooter event, Amerivespa, is coming to Southern California. The SoCal scooter community is very excited about Amerivespa 2013, which will be held June 27-30 in San Diego. The main lodging (with discounted price) will be the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center. Despite the name, THIS RALLY IS OPEN TO ALL MAKES AND MODELS OF SCOOTERS!

The past several years, Genuine Scooters have been very well represented at Amerivespa—the most numerous aside from Vespa/Piaggio. And there will be MANY MB members attending this year!

Amerivespa is four days of scooter riding, events and entertainment, a big banquet, a concourse, and a gymkhana (games and competitions). This year's rally in Lake Geneva, WI, drew over 600 registrants. 2013 will likely be bigger. Past Amerivespas have had rides as large as 230+ scooters. This year, we had over 600 on a ride! (They're not all that big and there will be several riding options each day.)

The San Diego area offers some of the best roads in the country, with coastal views, sweeping mountain roads, and a hilly city packed with charming neighborhoods. The local scooter clubs are planning some amazing rides and events, including a run to Mexico.

For a sense of what an event that size is like, check out my pics from this year: http://www.flickr.com/photos/82788703@N ... 309040506/

Here's a wrap-up I did of the 2010 rally in San Antonio: http://vespalexington.com/2010/06/ameri ... cooterism/ (Please excuse the effusive and hyperbolic introduction!)

Accommodations:
The main hotel is the Town & Country, though everyone's free to make accommodations elsewhere. I suggest trying to stay close to T&C or Motorsport Scooters/Vespa Motorsport, where many of the activities will begin.

The rally rate for T&C is $119/night, for either a double room or a single king, available via this link: https://t.co/hXt5my9L

The hotel has a 48 hour cancellation policy, so reserving ASAP may be a good idea. I may crash with friends but have still reserved a room. (They may charge the first night 21 days before the stay begins. This is refundable if you cancel.) The rooms at this rate will likely fill up. Other discounted hotels may become available at that time.

Registration and Rally Itinerary:
Registration will open next week at http://www.amerivespa.org

Registration is usually $60 in advance, then $75. In exchange for this, attendees receive a giant swag bag full of scooter-y goodness from the many sponsors, official Amerivespa T-shirt, official patch, some Vespa Club of America goodies, at least a couple meals (including a big banquet/awards ceremony) and full access to all events. You'll get your money's worth!

Rally Itinerary will be posted on the Amerivespa site next week as well.

I've been a few time without my wife. :)

Also, they're working on scooter rentals for the event!
