Stolen: White Buddy 125cc San Francisco

Post by retrochick »

Hi everyone,
Saturday morning around 9:20AM I discovered that my scooter was stolen. I last saw it Thursday night and have notified the police and filed an insurance claim.

SF folks, please keep your eyes peeled for a 2013 white Buddy 125. It has black mirrors and a black rear rack.

License plate is: CA20T8295

Thanks guys. I think the chances of the scooter getting recovered are slim. Just another reason to make sure you get comprehensive coverage for your scooter!

I think it's Eric that typically reminds folks to get an entry in the Scoot.net Stolen Scooter Registry. http://scoot.net/stolen/

They get the word out to other scooterists and scooter shops.

Good luck in getting your scoot back.

YUP.

Also, post to area clubs' forums, Facebook pages or websites and let local dealers know.

Sorry to hear about the theft. :(

Update!

Just wanted to let everyone know that my scooter was recovered on 4/13/13!

No idea what to do next. The insurance company has already paid me for the scooter and now I have papers asking for a release and $140 in tow fees. Ugh!

If you were paid out on the scoot, the insurance company legally owns it. You would have been asked to hand over keys and title to the insurance company. If that is, indeed, what you did, contact your agent. You could negotiate a buy-back which you may want to do if it isn't completely trashed. Or, if it is trashed, buy it back super-cheap, fix it or sell for parts.

Don't ask me why I know this

Also I would contact your insurance company before paying any tow or other fees. I would think if they now legally own it then they would be the ones to settle with the police/dmv/tow company to have it released to them.

if they paid you for replacing it, then they own it.
like the others said, you can contact them and ask how much they will sell it back for.

Awesome!

Did you already buy a replacement?

If it's in good nick I would do as suggested and buy it back from the insurance company for cheap. It will likely have a branded/salvage title due to theft recovery but unless you plan on selling it on I wouldn't be too concerned.

Thank you all. I called my agent yesterday so hope to hear back from her today.

I live in SF and the scooter was found in Oakland! Damn rat bastards.

Apparently the scooter was involved a front end collision and once the authorities realized that the scooter was stolen, they had it towed.

I hope the thief got hurt......I would call the prosecutor attorney, that is handing the case, and demand justice! Ask for hard time, the thief is a menace to society, the way they drive, and steal vehicles....Talk to the prosecutor, to get your deductible reimbursement first from the thief....then the insurance company gets theirs!
