Won a buddy scooter

Post by Loren »

Hello all, I got lucky and won a 50cc buddy a couple months ago and finally picked it up this week. Waiting so long almost killed me so I spent my time lurking the internet and found this nice site full of info about scooters and whatnot and it got me wondering. Did any other winners happen to join this site after winning? It was a raffle held by Seagram's Escape and as far as I know there were 13 winners this round and next month they are picking another 13 winners down south.
I know it sounds like I got a free scooter but it sure was expensive after I through all the red tape. People want to know what it cost me so I thought I would share with you guys just as general information you might find interesting. First I had to pay $198 in sales tax at the dealership, I will have to pay about $400 in income tax at the end of the year for winning a prize, missed a day of work to pick the scoot up so there's another $100 roughly, one year insurance at $95, and about $75 to register it tomorrow. All this brings a grand total of almost $900, not that I'm complaining riding the thing has been an absolute blast.
I just thought I would share this with you guys since I will prolly frequent this site for a while.

*Very* cool, Loren! Good on ya and way to go! :)

I'm pretty new here myself, but this is a great group of friendly folks and an even better resource.

Welcome to the fold. :)

congrats on your good fortune!

personally, i'd tell the 'gov to stick the "income" tax where the sun don't shine!! raining on your Buddy Parade like that

otherwise be good to it and you'll recoup your investment and perhaps more at resale time

enjoy that scoot!!

Congrats!!! Aside from the winnings tax, you would have to pay out on all of those fees anyway if you bought a new bike on top of the MSRP, so you really are coming out ahead... If you were wanting a bike anyways :P

Don't forget to post pics of the new ride. We love pictures!
