Made the local paper!

Post by viney266 »

Our club, TMISC does the local Holiday parade and this year I made the local news with the Stella and sidecar; the REALLY cool thing is my wife, Carol on the Stella and my son on the buddy all in the same pic!

Awesome!

I had the same happen in late October in the Hartford Courant (without rocking the Santa beard)

From the photo with the wheel off the ground I'm assuming you highly utilized the spinning right turn sidecar move. It's a crowd pleaser.

Looking great guys! Love the family side car. I'm going to have to try to convince the wife one of those is a good investment when our little girl gets old enough!

Lets see, my wife is 9 months pregnant now, soooo that would be like what, August?

The sidecar seat doesn't support the LATCH system for infant carseats though...actually no seatbelt is standard. My kid was 4 when we got it (coolest ride to preschool).

Having the sidecar has allowed for many more rides than if I didn't have it and this was a major factor in my purchase of it -- it can be a "family" thing instead of "daddy just going away alone for a ride again." She has tolerated an hour and a half ride max (watching videos in the iPhone much of the way) but is better with shorter rides (under 20 minutes) in general.

Now that she is six and I trust her to hold on a bit more than before I will allow her short rides on the back of the scooter as a "treat."

Yeah, pretty gray these days, but I grow it back for hunting season. Gotta watch the weight or I will start to look like Santa

YES!. There are no pictures, but I was flying the chair for half the parade. The little boy I was hauling loved it and was waving to the crowd, we were getting cheers.

I thought about putting a seat belt in mine just in case I ever needed it, but my guys are 14 and 16 so I never got around to it. I did put in a small eyelet for a dog leash. My lab stays put, but figured it might be a good idea. Dogs and sidecars go together :)

Nice to see another rig out there, a tonne of fun!

Had one of us fly his sidecar in the Tucson parade a few years back. The police caught up with us afterwards and they were NOT amused. They threatened to ban us from all future parades if anything like that EVER happened again. Apparently, if it's not legal outside of a parade, it's not legal inside of one. At least as far at Tucson PD is concerned.

It was a crowd pleaser, though.

Yeah, they were pretty cheesed about the sidecar shenanigans. Probably a good thing the owner was nowhere to be seen when they came a-calling for him. Was it '08?

I still need to buy some old Elite panels and build bodywork for next years parade; wanna go full-Griswold.

At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Seriously...I've lost count...

Seven mopeds ...that's still manageable...

Some guys ( especially some cops) just need to take a deep breath and RELAX. I have a few good friends who are cops, and EVERY one of them would do that if they could. They were just ticked you were having fun and they were not!
One of my friends in law enforcement was in the parade with us, being the most amusing one in the group! Some of those guys just take themselves way to serious.

If I may jump into your sidecar discussion, how much of a top-end penalty does the hack exert?

Also, do scoots require a special flat profile tire when using a sidecar as on a motorcycle? And does the car reduce tire life very much?

You DO feel the sidecar over there, as we all know the Stella isn't a powerhouse and you feel it. I have two Stellas. One has a 177 top-end and a carb, the usual bolt-ons. The sidecar has jut an SIP exhaust, a P200 air filter, and a rejet. The bike will do a solid 55-60 with the sidecar off. 50 is about it with the sidecar in tow; it will do 55, but it takes a while to get there. The uphill acceleration is probably a 30% loss with the sidecar at a guess. top speed is only slightly down but it takes twice as long to get there.

I have hauled 3 people for short distance around town. THAT is slow, and you have to baby the clutch when pulling out.

The tires? tough question, mine came with those crappy sava whitewalls, but the tires have 1400 miles on them, the rear is DONE, front is gonna need replaced by 2,000 and the sidecar tire is a normal round one, and it shows the least wear. I figured the front would go away first, but the rear is toast . I am putting on something better to see what I get.
