When checking oil should the dip stick be screwed all the way back in?
I've seen the videos and have seen both methods used.

Consensus a year or two back was screwed-in for the Buddy. This conflicted with my '70s Honda experience, which was unscrewed.

Best bet: change the oil by adding the factory-specified volume and see where it hits on the (screwed-in) dipstick.

See topic21236.html. Screwed-in is the answer from a very knowledgeable source.

It differs from scooter to scooter. It sometimes specifies which in the manual. Buddy manual does not.

Form what I've found so far, the shorter ones usually get screwed in and the longer ones do not. I actually looked in a bunch of manuals to try to find this out.

it doesn't matter unless you obsess over 1/10 of capacity. the volume of oil from "empty" to "full" on the stick is just 1/10 of capacity. when the stick is screwed in all the way it reads fuller, when it is not screwed in, less so. but the stick should be wet either way, just a bit higher or lower

only thing wrong you can do really is measure it with the stick out when its supposed to be in and over fill it a bit. so i just make sure its not over or under full with the stick screwed in or out, and all is fine. i see oil on the stick either way and know its within 9/10 full

Not necessarily. My Aprilia with Piaggio engine says to screw it in.

We'll I drained the oil and filter and added the .9 liter. The level is just right with the stick just dipped in. The Manual on this isn't very clear!

Great little machine and ready to ride.

Thanks to all.

Screw the PGO's and Piaggio's
Dip the Japanese and Kymcos.

Thanks for the heads up.
