Stella hood ornament / mascot

Post by slotrod65 »

I have been searching for a hood ornament/mascot for my Stella ever since it has been delivered. Today, my search is over:

BIG THUMBS UP!

I can't wait until you are "finished" with your bike. Or will that day never come?

I am pretty sure it will always be a work in progress... I haven't even started on the driveline, suspension, etc.

I picked him up on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/370913971786?ss ... 1439.l2649

The Speed Monkey normally comes with a bolt sticking out the bottom, but since I need to trim the base down a bit, and curve it to fit the Stella mudguard crest, the seller instead sent me one with a threaded hole. He was answered several pestering emails, and was happy to mod it for me.

He places auctions once a week or so, including several different and interesting mascots.

That's very cool. Going to start checking the seller's auctions.

I recently visited the Nethercutt Collection and Museum with our scooter group. I could have spent a week in there studying and photographing nothing but hood ornaments. Aside from those on the cars, there were many cases full of them.

Love the monkey hood ornament, it seems very well proportioned to adorn the Stella. I notice the seller listed another, this time including Vespa and scooter in his title line.

Nice find!

I wanted some sort of front fender embellishment that was different, and have spent the past year digging through car shows, flea markets, etc. There is a lot out there. I made a cardboard template showing the curve of the front fender, which I brought along to see of the hood ornament would fit: 50's cars had great planes and rockets!

I look at many that were either too rusted, too expensive, did not fit, etc. The Speed Monkey works for me!

Spend some time at cars shows, junk yards, and flea markets. Something always pops up.

I don't have anything to do with this item, but here's the monkey on ebay if anyone is interested. Nice ornament! (Looks like it's the same seller.)

Well.. after a long hard winter here in upstate NY, I was finally able to get my Monkey Man mounted. He sits on the stock Stella mudguard crest:

That's sweet! I will admit that I love a good mascot!

Nice job!

Try this place. They've got great pieces at reasonable prices.
