Ready and obviously excited!

From what I hear these are the Buddy 125s and 50s. No International Editions are coming yet. May be another month or so.

Metro Scooter has 2008 Buddy's in, but only the 125 cc ones. They have the new orange color. I haven't seen it in person yet, but they said they were in on the phone on Thursday. They thought it would be a few weeks for the specialty models.

awesome, I think I might have to go up there on tuesday and take a look. I'm still not sure if the 150cc is worth the extra $400

I went down to visit Metro scooter today, found out the place was closed for some reason, probably for the holiday weekend since it's presidents day and all. All that excitement of hearing they had 2008 models in :(

About to pull in and saw this huge gate in the way, so we laughed it off and got hamburgers.

Dave/seth if you read this, the people who work by the wendy's down the street arent very nice, they ignored me the entire time I was waiting in line and kept talking to one another and never took my order, this isnt related to you, but just a heads up in case you ever want to eat there.

Bad News- I cant get my Buddy until I sell my Van, and I cant sell my van until I fix it up a bit (new brakes, windshield, shock thingies on the back hatch, blower motor)   Ill have no money left for my scooter!
Does anyone want a 1998 Chevy Astro Van? The brakes really arent bad, Ill replace the windshield, the back hatch comes with a nice 2x4 to hold it open, and a blower motor is easy and cheap to replace! Its the Perfect Shagin' Wagon! (or a great stalker van!) Comes complete with funny bumper stickers, air fresherner, and 2x4! Any takers?

I was at Metro Scooter today. They thought it would be about two weeks for the 150 Specialty models. Attached are pictures of the new 2008 colors they had in stock.

Notice the 2008's have longer mirror stems than the 06' and 07's. No more staring at your right shoulder.

I saw all the new models at Dealer Expo. The San Tropez is fantastic, it's two-tone slate blue-grey, very classy. I heard a dealer say it looked like it just rode in from a black and white photo (dunno about that, ha). I'll ignore that other thread other than to point out that you're RIDING A SCOOTER CALLED the "BUDDY," if you have machismo issues, or are looking to impress people with your badassness, you're in the wrong place.

The painted wheels with the whitewalls just look amazing to me, I thought it was a whole new wheel design, but it's not. They look like they're from a tiny 40s Moto Guzzi or a tractor or something, especially the red Pamplona wheels.

They each have an oval sticker on the back "E" (España) for the Pamp, "I" for the Italia, and "F" for the San Tropez. I thought the San Tropez looked best overall but the wheels on the Pamp are beautiful. I guess if I'd never seen the Italia before, it'd still be my favorite, but the San Tropez has the edge because it's new.

I'll post photos soon and link 'em up here, hopefully tonight.

The Stella looked great, and the blue buddy was a really nice color, close to a Vespa light blue. I'd never seen the rear crashbars installed, they look nice. Looks like they've got a lot of tuning and dress-up parts in the works, a new Scooterworks catalog is due in the next few months.

They had a Roughhouse with the bottom bodywork of a Black Kat ("Light Fuse and Get Away") so that's proof that they're pretty similar, ha.

The same stems that are currently available as an add on for around $35 (that I have on order)? Or a different design.

Thanks for the scoop on the S.T.! I can't wait to see your pictures.
I was just trying to have some fun with a "does it look cool or does it suck" question in the "other thread".
I have been known to ride my wife's pink Buddy on occasion, so no machismo worries there. Besides, you're just as likely to have a frat-boy chuck a beer bottle at you on a vintage Vespa as you are a Buddy in this town.

Does going by the Tiawanese name make it any better?

Yeah, I think they are the same as the aftermarket stems, I guess they are now standard on the 2008's

THE BLUE IS SOOOO PRETTY! Thanks for the pics toddrw2251!
TOMORROW IS THE DAY! I HOPE- My dealer said they would be in Wednesday-TOMORROW!

As far as selling the van- my parents said I COULD NOT sell the van until I got my scooter so if I didnt like the scooter (AS IF! ) Then I would still have a vehicle to drive. Well, now they said they dont want me to take out a loan, because the market is going down (or something of that sort) so I have to sell the van first and they also want me to fix it up before I sell it now! I WISH I HAD KNOW THIS A MONTH AGO! Where am I going to find some sucker to buy a 10 year old van for $3500 (wait, no, $4,000 after the $500 in repairs I have to put into it)
:( I want my scooter SO bad! Now I wont be able to afford it for another Month- AT LEAST! Being a poor college student SUCKS!

valgal, i'm in the same situation as you, except replace "sell the van" with "sell the house". We have this house that we still need to finish moving out of and get it cleaned up and list it for sale...then sell it. I'm in a desperate mood for the new Pamplona but that house has to sell first so that I can afford it. :( it makes me a little sad that I'm going to have to wait.

why cant you just get a loan, then sell your car, then pay off the loan with what you sell your car for (or close to it)? If you dont want to take out a loan like that, apply for a zero interest credit card and use that, then it is the same as using cash (provided you pay it off in time). As for the parent factor, arent you an adult? I understand they can be more headache than its worth, but in the realm of scooters, the headache of them complaining to you is worth it. plus, the economy is in a down curve right now, but there are things in motion to correct that, and the main reason the economy sucks right now anyway is from home owners that got into adjustable rate mortgages and are now in over their heads. Not a lot of people are looking to buy much of anything right now, WHICH IS THE TIME TO BUY!!!!!!!!!! things are cheaper, so as long as you yourself arent in over your head, now is the best time to buy a scoot. Many dealers are offering GREAT deals on stuff (including scooter invasion)in an effort to induce buying. Selling your van will take longer than you think right now, I have had a great car for sale here in phoenix for like $1,500 under blue book, and still no takers. My last thought is that if you work, you most likely are getting a government check in May for $600.00 in an effort to stimulate the economy. Google "Tax Rebates".

Thanks PCB, I dont think Im going to be getting any tax rebate (well, except the $10 I got from my regular taxes. My parents are still claiming me (23 and full time student) so I wont be seeing any of that money- and I doubt they will give me the $300 they get for me being their kid. :sigh:
I have a little debt, but now that Im working again I should get on top of that soon. As far as the loan, Ill have to look into getting one. Oh well, I just need to won the lottery- :( Thanks

Sorry, I was in bed for four days with the flu and now my daughter's got it (I'll spare you the combo diarrhea/nosebleed story from this morning.)

I'll try to get 'em posted tonight.

As far as performance difference, I don't think it'll be mindblowing, probably just a little more power and a few mph on the top end. The way I see it, the Buddy 125 is so fast because the frame is so small and light, if you make it a lot faster, the buddy's size and weight (and the brakes and suspension) would become a liability.

All my friends that raced Vespas had to keep reinforcing their frames (and upgrading their suspensions/brakes) as they built more and more powerful engines, they were literally twisting and coming apart at the seams. You can't just throw a sportbike engine in a moped, it all needs to be engineered as a system.

Val,
go to shady neighbourhood.
park van
leave the keys in it
leave the windows halfway down
say your good buys and walk away
come back next day, most likely van is gone, file police report.

There, van is gone, go get the scooter.

If you have insurance, an unscruplous person might try to collect on the insurance, that would be illegal.

just a thought
Beer is the answer . . . what was the question?

I feel your pain. My buddy purchase is 15 days away, and that's if the dealer gets the 2008 scooters by then.
Are you going for the blue 125cc or the 150cc blue St. Tropez? My backup color if I don't care for the 150cc engine is the seafoam green 125 Buddy. :)

The Buddy is really a tiny bike. Regardless of cc's wouldn't you be happier with something that fit your body better?

Val - Sorry about your troubles needing to delay the purchase.

My situation didn't end up all that much better. I bought my scooter then proceeded to get the most awful flu ever known and was sick for 10days. Then just when I was getting better...pinkeye. I'm starting to think I'll never do anything more than look at the scoot iparked n the garage.
