Various Questions about Exhaust/Jetting & Sidecars!

Hello -

Just picked up a 2008 Stella with Rocket sidecar, and am thrilled with it so far. I'd like to do a few mods that will give it a slightly better acceleration off the line, and also about +5mph (it is barely getting to 40 right now).

It has a stock exhaust on it so I was thinking of starting there and would like to upgrade to a SIP-Road 2.0 exhaust. My initial two questions are:

1) Is this the correct exhaust for a 2008 Stella?

2) Can someone recommend a jet stack for my elevation/configuration (or point me to somewhere that I can determine it myself)? Here is a recommendation that I found elsewhere, but I am planning to de-blue my carborator as well, so I wasn't sure if this was still accurate. My elevation is 750 feet above sea level. Here is the stack I found:

• Be3 atomizer
  160 air correction jet
  102 main jet
  55/160 idle jet

In addition to the above, I have a couple of sidecar-specific questions:

1) The metallic nose on the Rocket sidecar has some rust on it. Does anyone know if there is a shop that sells replacements? Otherwise, is there a trick to removing the rust?

2) As far as I know, it has stock tires on it. I read elsewhere that these tires can be very heavy which also will impact the acceleration and top speed of my rig. Is there a recommendation on replacement tires for the sidecar + scooter that would reduce the overall weight?

One easy way to increase speed and acceleration is to remove the windshield on the sidecar.

That exhaust will fit your scooter, I'm not sure of the jets as I have a 4T.

Scooterworks is part of Genuine Scooters. Genuine imports the Cozy sidecar into the US, as they do the Stella/LML scooter. That is a good source for Cozy sidecar parts.

American Scooter Center is another Cozy importer.

I ran Stella sidecar outfits for many years when the children were younger. My favorite set up was a Polini top end with a Sito+. Replace the LML air filter with a Piaggio one or drill out the indentations on the bottom above the jets. You just need to spend some time and work out your jetting. I could get mine above 50mph and the Polini + the Sito+ pulled well at low revs. I hear that SIP pipe is pretty nice.

Thanks Lambrettaman - Can you confirm whether this is the filter you are referring to? And can I use this one today, or do I need to coordinate this replacement with the up-jetting/exhaust?

Changing to a less restrictive filter will always require an upjet or at least plug check to make sure you're not running lean.
