Eighth Annual SPEND-A-THON
Welcome to the Modern Buddy Eighth Annual SPEND-A-THON
It has been an up and down year for me. I guess this has also kind of become my Holiday Letter to MB.
I survived not loosing my left leg...twice in two days..in September 2013 and wondered if I would ever ride...or work again. Well it has been a year of rehab, PT, pain and job searches. Well when you can't find a job...start a company!
All in all I am very grateful to be in one piece and not missing any!
Enough about me
So here's the deal...Spend Spend Spend!
The SPEND-A-THON has run every year since 2007 and yes...I still have the same 06 Vintage Buddy!
The spend-a-thon runs from Thanksgiving to midnight New Year's Eve .
Please wander over to this thread every time you spend money on scooter gear. ANY scooter gear for ANY scooter!
Thats globally. All brands, A to Z including books, gear, oil, GPS and especially SCOOTERS!!!
Please post your spending in USD to make it easy.
(Do your own currency conversions easily at http://www.xe.com )
There's no need to mention much except the total $$ involved and the date I guess. But you are more than welcome to post a list

OK, too tempting. One Bernardi wheelset modified for a Puch. With Treatland discounts, I'm in for $176.00. Not too bad, since I've wanted a set for a while.
Don't even want to think about what I've spent on parts for the world's worst '81 Honda Passport in the last two months; I've come to the conclusion that the previous owner managed to break everything on this bike. Did the major service on the Yager last weekend; the oil mileage was up, the fork oil was shot, the coolant was over two years old and it felt like time to freshen the brake fluid.
EDIT: Did some more figuring and fiddling and made one more Treatland purchase: a set of EBR hydraulic forks for a Puch Maxi for a cool $195.99 with the discount and free shipping. They'll match up with the hydraulic shocks I've been saving for the last two years. Might have to start planning to put that machine together sooner than later.
EDIT 2: Tack on another $61.86 for two fork seal kits from All Balls Racing. Leaky forks suck.

At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

I technically paid for the Gogo stuff too early, but both were limited time preorders that I didn't have an option to pay for later... so I think it should count
Edit to add total... $402.42
What color hoodie did you get?

Short answer: It's an optional unofficial MB event that BuddyRaton creates a thread for every year. The idea is to log every purchase for your scooter or scooter-related goodies you buy, give or receive during the period of roughly Thanksgiving until New Year's.snoozy wrote:Can somebody explain to me what this "Spendathon" is about? I don't get it.
Buy a new scooter? List it here.
Buy new tires? List it here.
Have your scooter serviced? List it here.
Get any riding gear? List it here.
Buy a scooter ornament? List it here.
T-shirt with a scoot on it? List it here.
Along with the purchase description (or gift description), list an approximate value of the item. BuddyRaton tallies it all and gives out numerous virtual awards to arbitrarily chosen winners.
Some new examples:
Spent $40 to have the fuel tank for my JC Penny Pinto welded up. It's a service. It will let me ride it again. It gets listed.
Just spent $39.77 on eBay for a locknut spanner tool for Hondas and GY6s. I needed a better one for working on some of my engine projects and the cheap-o one I bought last year wasn't cutting it anymore. It'll let me fix more scoots. It gets listed.
I bought a Snoopy-branded hotdog toaster for my department's white elephant gift exchange. It was the lest desirable item and I refused to take it back. It has nothing to do with scooters. It doesn't get listed.
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Add $37.99 for a NOS ignition switch for the Passport.
Add $199.99 for scooter-related gifts to be disclosed later, don't wish to spoil the surprise. If you really gotta know, ask the guys in San Diego.

Ok, coolant, drive belt, air filter and some body pieces, etc = 238.00 and I hope I am done for a while. There is more cosmetic work to be done on the Reflex but it will be a another month before I start on that. Working on scooters is always fun. In the meantime the Buddy 150 is purring like a kitten.

Don't know if this counts or not... 11/27/14: $75; My parents wanted to get me something scooter related for Xmas this year, so while visiting for Thanksgiving I showed them the Buddy deadlight conversion kit (was on sale that day too!) on scooterwest.com, which they purchased immediately. Reeeeally wanted the blackout kit - but I went the safety route instead as that seems a bit more important (plus the deadlight kit was cheaper).

$19.95 for a Vesrah engine gasket kit for a Honda C70 Passport.
$35.00 for a high volume oil pump for the same C70 Passport.
Waiting to see of a 4-speed kit comes available so I can get that and a shift pattern kit. Also waiting for a price on the crankshaft overhaul...hurry up guys!

At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

EDIT: Gift given, new legshield trim for a largeframe modern Vespa and a gift certificate to ScooterWest.az_slynch wrote:Add $37.99 for a NOS ignition switch for the Passport.
Add $199.99 for scooter-related gifts to be disclosed later, don't wish to spoil the surprise. If you really gotta know, ask the guys in San Diego.

After buying two new 2014 170's earlier this year at an undisclosed amount, two more custom seat covers (~$85), new set of tires of the wife's Buddy ($84) we just scored our third black out kit (for the wife's Buddy) to compliment the Potent Pink @ $101.00.
Still watching a few items for the MB, but not in any hurry to pull the trigger.

I received $250.00 in gift cards to my friendly neighborhood scooter shop. I also received other scooter goodies that I need to assess value on and post.
On the 19th, I spent $51.19 on an NOS 40mph VDO speedometer for Puch and a hub brush.
On the 27th, I spent $37.89 for a stainless steel engine bolt kit for an E50 and a new fuel tap.
Last night, I spent another $49.76 on intake bits from Treatland. They're doing an 18% off through the end of the year.
Still waiting on the invoice for those cranks (estimate was ~ $430 for parts and labor)...
