Blur Stabel Magnum Horn Install?

Post by pajeanka »

Now that I am an official Blur rider that meep-meep stock horn has to go! I do have a Stebel Magnum high tone horn on hand. No problem to physically switch out the horns, that's easy. Here's my only question:
In the MB Technical Library the "Stebel Nautilus Compact upgrade: BLUR" post states "Note that this is for the Nautilus Compact (install instructions), the Stebel Magnum is pretty much just a straight swap without the additional wiring required." So when I install the Stebel Magnum horn on the Blur do I need to wire in a relay or not?
Thanks - you guys always help me find the answers I need.

My understanding is that it's a direct plug in, but I don't recall anyone whose installed the Magnum, at least none that have gone into the details of how it's wired. I'd wait for someone whose installed it to chime in.

I put a Magnum on mine. No relay, just plug it in and go. :)

I think you should wiring relay for 2 reason

- exten horn switch life time cuase lound horn need more current
- better sweet horn sound cuase relay can feed enough current

Use a relay

I installed this horn and used a relay. I installed this horn without a relay first and it was louder after installing the relay.

davelhunter is right. I finally got around to wiring the Stebel Magnum horn directly to the battery via a relay yesterday. The horn was much louder and distinct than the month I've been riding around with it on my Blur as a "plug n' play" install. This is the second Stebel Magnum horn install I've done (first one was a '06 Buddy 125) and I'm now convinced you need the relay for a horn install on our Genuine scooters. 8)
BTW . . . Nathaniel Salzman's instructions for wiring in a relay on your scooter are the clearest & simplest I've found anywhere. A link to those instructions is in the MB Technical Library at: http://www.nathanielsalzman.com/2008/08 ... -air-horn/
