Buddy 170i Final Drive Gear Oil....

Post by Mopedlar »

The Buddy 170i owner's manual calls for SAE 140W gear oil in the final drive. Is it OK to use 90W-140 or do I have to use straight 140W?

Also, is it better to use Hypoid oil instead of conventional gear oil?

Thanks!

I couldn't find SAE 140W so I ended up getting SAE 75w140, synthetic Royal Purple. I searched it & found people using it in muscle cars & 4X4 trucks driven hard so I'm guessing it should be ok. If anyone's found straight 140, let us know where.

I use Super Tech full synthetic 75W140 from Walmart. It works fine.

when I had my Rattler 110 & 2 different Buddy 125's...85w-140 conventional hypoid gear oil, 85w-140 synthetic blend hypoid gear oil, and 75w-140 full synthetic hypoid gear oil were used; all will do the trick!
did anyone get the license plate number of the bus that just hit me?!?
