Ninth Annual SPEND-A-THON!!!!!!!

Post by BuddyRaton »

Welcome to the Modern Buddy Ninth Annual SPEND-A-THON

Another year has passed and it is time for the SPEND-A-THON to begin! I've been doing this for nine years? It only seems like a decade!

2007 was the inaugural year for the SPEND-A-THON and it has run every year since 2007. I still have the my06 Vintage Buddy kitted to 161 and a 2011 Blur 220 so I am still in the Genuine Thanksgiving mood!

As always the Spend-A-Thon runs from Thanksgiving to midnight New Year's Eve. All decisions as to what counts are up to me...cause I say so!

Please wander over to this thread every time you spend money on scooter gear. ANY scooter gear for ANY scooter!

That's globally. All brands, A to Z including books, gear, oil, GPS and especially SCOOTERS!!!

Received a gift...give it your best estimate!

Please post your spending in USD to make it easy.
(Do your own currency conversions easily at http://www.xe.com )
There's no need to mention much except the total $$ involved and the date I guess. But you are more than welcome to post a list

What is the SPEND-A-THON history?

For the first Spend-A-Thon out total was $14,354
viewtopic.php?t=2792&highlight=spendathon

Year two ended at $27,644.85!!!!!!!
viewtopic.php?t=9143&postdays=0&postord ... &start=0we

The third annual SPEND-A-THON total was the largest so far!
$30,097!
viewtopic.php?t=13726&postdays=0&postor ... d&start=50

The fourth annual spend-a-thon total was
$12,976
viewtopic.php?t=17218&highlight=spendathon

Spend-a-thon 5 total was
$11,954.58! People were just way too rational!
viewtopic.php?t=17218&highlight=spendathon

The MB Sixth Annual Spend-A-Thon totaled
$16,317.51!!!!!
viewtopic.php?t=23882&postdays=0&postor ... on&start=0

Spend-A-Thon seven totaled
$14,526.04
Az had about half of that!
viewtopic.php?t=26352&start=50

Last years Eighth Annual Spend-A-Thon total was $10.438.37
viewtopic.php?t=28132&postdays=0&postor ... on&start=0

So wake up from your turkey nap, pause the football game, put down the remote and get buying! It's a Cannonball year! Start getting your parts and gear now!

$253.75 in consumables and labor for the Yager. Changed the engine and gearbox oil, had the CVT cleaned and lubricated, tire valves replaced and the brake fluid power-bled. The pitiful bit was that it was the bike's first oil change this year, and I didn't even meet the mileage interval. Only 938 miles in one year...

$27.99 for Strada7 83-degree alloy valve stems for the Yager's wheels. Wanted to make it easier to check and adjust tire pressures. Now, I can grab the bike pump instead of setting up the compressor or riding to the club garage or QuikTrip. Maybe my tires will hold pressure too.

$55.12 for yet another Dowco Guardian cover for my Yager. Bought a new one earlier in the year, but someone in my household set a hot and greasy turkey pan on it...

$24.99 for a specialty throttle cable for my Zuma. It makes the carb swap from a Teikei 14mm to a Dell'Orto 17.5m painless.

$22.50 for a primo Express II frame cover. Still collecting parts for that one.

$12.00 for an good Express indicator lamp assembly. Yoinking the lamp boot to repair the indicator lamps on my Gyro S. That one is geting ever closer to roadworthy.

$248.96 for a DRT 65T cush drive rebuild kit for 125/150cc engines, a C4-spec rear axle bearing, Corteco axle seal, two felt rings for the brake drum and several pairs of SIP's pricey custom shims for PX Lusso drive axles... plus shipping.

$68.45 for a new 4T intermediate center shaft and 2-3 gear cluster, plus shipping. If they're half as nice as the 4th-cush center that I received, they'll still be twice as nice as the factory-fitted bits.

I really should be saving for Christmas. This thread is a bad influence, BR!

EDIT: Beedspeed had a recalculation on parts and shipping; price adjusted accordingly.

$45.00 for machining on two V9A 1st-series cylinder heads and an exhaust manifold.

$69.95 for a new Kymco front brake cylinder for the Yager. The Arizona sun isn't doing much to the body plastics yet, but it is doing a number on the brake reservoir sightglasses. Going to replace both when the rear one comes in and refurbish the originals with heavy duty sightglasses and new seals as cold spares.

$62.59 for carburetor parts and wiring harness fittings for a Razz from CheapCycleParts. price includes shipping.

$24.73 for a copy of 5000 Miles at 8000 RPM plus shipping; it counts because I wouldn't have known about it without the help of jrsjr's bad influence in this post.

$282.25 for a Polini 165cc cylinder kit for Stella, two extra gasket sets for said cylinder kit and shipping from SIP. Can't hurt to have a little extra grunt, since a derestricted 50 could give the stock Stella a run for it's money...

$100.00 worth of gift certificate to my local scooter shop, thanks to my sister. Along with my other gift cards and loyalty reward, I can either cover a lot of accessories and service now, or I'm looking to be in good shape when the next gotta-have-it scooter comes along

Yager went back in for more preventative maintenance today, partly because a part came in and partly to help the service department with their month-end numbers. Hopefully, I can get it back Tuesday and add a little more to the tally.

Sorry I was too late for the spendathon when I ordered a $109 Cuppini windshield for the wife yesterday. They were out of stock before Christmas but I found one at ScooterWest yesterday.

Aww, I knew I should've entered Friday and Saturday's purchases.

On New Year's Day:

$86.65 for Keihin CVK30 parts so I can finish refurbing a GT200 carburetor.

On January 2nd:

$69.34 for more new bits for my Zuma from CheapCycleParts. They're doing free shipping for a limited time, so I saved over $25 in shipping!

$29.50 for some angled alloy valve stems from kurveygirl.com for the Zuma. Free shipping and supporting an Arizona business.

$32.18 for some Yamaha air filters off of eBay.
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Seriously...I've lost count...

Seven mopeds ...that's still manageable...

Wow! That is kind of sad. Spending is WAY down.
