How Far Have You Ridden?

Post by MYSCTR »

After doing some looking back the past few years have flown by and we have accumulated thousands of mostly fun miles riding our Buddy scooters.

How Far Have You Ridden?

Our accumulated mileage (to date) in just over 7-1/2 years with three riders has gone over 75,000 miles. This breaks down roughly to 33K for myself, 29K for my wife and about 13K for our daughter.

2006 125 Black 50 miles
2007 125 Italia 800 miles
2008 150 Italia 7,700 miles
2008 150 St Tropez 19,750 miles
2009 125 Red 5,400 miles
2009 150 Italia 16,300 miles
2010 150 St Tropez 2,400 miles
2014 170i Brit Blue (Tardis) 7,500 miles
2014 170i Matt Black 10,200 miles
2014 170i Matt Black (Pink) 5,200 miles

My '08 150 as is sits in my garage right now.
Some may remember it sat un-ridden for over a year and a half a couple years ago.

That is awesome! Between the motorcycle and scoot you have 35K... and in five years... in Denver to boot!

Even after all the mods and changes, my only regret is not keeping my first St. Tropez, Funny how you can grow attached to one of these things!

I think I can aggree with that.
'Simon' remains un-modded except for the addition of a windshield and a basket on the rear. We get out together regularly for 'mental health time' My regular vehicle to and from work, April through November this year, as long as the air temps remain above 40F We were just out the other day though it was much colder than that, but not to work. Rode out to the local craft beer "'nano-brewery'" I was given 'props' by the Harly riders who've 'put up' their rides for winter.
I do refer to my Buddy as 'My Buddy' sometimes, a two wheeled friend.

5200 miles since purchasing my scoot in March of 2016.

On a side note, I have been riding to work every day since I bought the bike. That is, until yesterday. I drove. I did not like it. :?

Karbash - Both my wife and daughter get kudos all the time for commuting on their very personalized Buddy scoots. Especially in the rain or cold.

Parader - Easy to get hooked and just have to ride - know the feeling.

Scooter - My first full year on a Buddy was 9,200 miles. Sorry to hear the Burg didn't hold up.

And then there is Nick... oh maybe this replaced his sled (haha). One could say he found his hobby.

My scooter miles so far
2008 Buddy 125 red ~ 10,750 miles, it was bought on 6/25/2016
2009 Buddy 125 black ~ 43,500 miles that was bought August 2010 and blown up October 2015
Pre-Buddy(mostly pre-2010)
1998 Honda Elite 80 ~6,500
1993 Honda Elite 80 ~4,300
1998 Honda Elite 80 ~1,000 miles
1989 Honda Elite E 50cc ~6,500+ miles(over 3k the first summer)

So that is 54,250 Buddy miles and 18,300 Honda miles, or about 73k total. That's not too shabby for living in Wisconsin.

A few weeks ago I realized that the total number of miles I have ridden on Buddy scooters is more than two trips around the world.

I've been meaning to put together a mileage list for a while, what better time than a day when high was 6F. Thinking warm thoughts. I have been commuting to school and work by scooter since 1998, as many days as weather permits. Which in Wisconsin has been determined by distance as well as temps. - when I lived 1.5 miles from work that meant any day there wasn't snow/ice on the roads (-8F really sucks even if it is only for 5 minutes) but currently my commute is 40 miles round trip, so 35F is the cut off. Generally I ride mid March through late October.

Miles in chronological order of purchase:

1978 Honda Express - 600 miles (with an air filter off a B&S lawn mower engine.)
1990 Suzuki FA50 - 2250 miles (really didn't like rain)
1986 Honda Spree - 3600 miles (ran great in the rain, held together with zip ties)
1989 Honda Eilte E - 3250 miles (had been sitting untouched in a shed for 10 years, ran great once the carb and gas tank were finally clean.)
1999 Honda Elite 80 - 2700 miles
2001 Honda Elite 80 - 7830 miles (first scooter I ever bought new)
2003 Honda Metropolitan - 2600 miles
2003 Bajaj Legend - 4500 miles (modern but old school, never did find a front drum that was actually round)
2004 Kymco ZX50 - 2500 miles (really nice basic scoot)
2001 Vespa ET4 - 2900 miles (great ride, but the (lack of) reliability of this bike led me to drive 3 hours check out the Buddy 125 in 2007 then rent a truck to go back and pick up the Buddy)
2007 Buddy 125 - 20,400 miles
2002 Yamaha Vino 50 - 2200 miles (2 stroke power!)
2010 Elite 110 - 1500 miles ("It's kind of like riding a sewing machine with a whole bunch of under seat storage.")
2012 Buddy 170 - 21,476 miles
1985 Honda Elite 250 - 800 miles

So, that's about 41,876 miles by Buddy power, 22,880 miles by Honda power, and 79,106 total miles by scooter so far.

We used to work with a guy from 'Jersey that said after spending some time in Texas, where he would say "That is a shit load" (of miles).

That is pretty incredible! We know there is a large portion of Buddy owners that may ride a few thousand or even just a few hundred miles a year so this goes to show the extreme differences between owners and what the Buddy can do. Pretty cool!

Maybe we should have asked who has the lowest odometer and how long have they owned their Buddy?

I have seen some pictures on here with odometer readings that made me sad. If I remember right one person was averaging ~190 miles a year(and they just added a cargo box?) The least number of miles I have ridden in a year when I had a road legal scooter was 300, but that scooter had a transmission issue so it only went 22 mph and had no acceleration.

Not a Buddy but averaged less than 30 miles a year for 30 years- viewtopic.php?t=27174&highlight=honda+aero

2013 Genuine Buddy 125 currently has 14,350 miles on the odometer, it was unhooked for 500-1000 miles) and I add more every day that I ride. Estimated total is approx 15,000 miles.

1985 Honda Elite Scooter had 1900 miles when I bought it and 3300 miles when I sold it. Estimated total is approx 1,500 miles.

2007 Genuine Stella 125 had 12,250 miles on odometer. The speedo cable broke for another year of riding before it was sold off for parts. Estimated total is approx 17,000 miles.

2007 Genuine Buddy 125 Italia was new when I bought it. I sold it 1 year later used for the same I paid for it new. It had 2,900 miles when I sold it.

2007 Diamo Retro 150cc had 0 miles when I bought it new. After a few months of ownership I sold it to buy my first Buddy scooter. Total mileage was approx 1,900 miles.

Estimated total mileage on all of the scooters I've owned since beginning my scooter riding career comes in at roughly...

38,300 total miles on my own scooters so far.

46.7% of the miles I've logged on my own scooters occurred on a Buddy 125cc.

44.4% of the miles I've logged were on my Stella 2T.
The red ones are faster.

In order of purchase
2006 Buddy 1400 (was replaced with the 2007)
2007 Buddy 19,020- still in service
2007 Vespa 250 GTS 18,200 (sold for BMW in 2015 ), bought used in 2009 with 1100 miles
1996 Honda Helix 23,740- still in service . Bought used with only 5 miles.
2015 BMW F700 GS 12,310- main ride these days

As far as use: Buddy for urban riding, Helix now is mostly a commuter and longer distance errand bike bc it can go on the freeway. I used to take it on long trips though. The BMW is for fun and commuting. I think I want a dirt bike now,but am not ready to sell any in the stable yet- I've ridden them all in the last 24 hours! :D
