possible new scoot...feedback on Kymco Like 50 2t
got the itch for a new scoot for commutes, errands, and light recreational rides; looking over several candidates in my region...I am avoiding used and consignment rides that have no dealer prep done (stabilize gas, tender battery, maintain tire pressures, etc); I prefer leftover new scoots with factory warranty; top end of budget is $2k out the door (price, tax, tags, doc fees); very, very difficult to locate leftover new Genuine scoots within my total budget...
I did find a leftover new '13 Kymco Like 50 2t that meets my criteria by a very slim margin on price...put a deposit to hold it until tax refund; I am looking for feedback on this model...thanks

Don't know much about the Like 50, but I was considering the Like 200i. Then I discovered it is in actuality, 163cc, not 200cc. Basically, less power than my Blur. Bummer. I may still get one, if a previously owned one comes up for the right price - I like the Like's looks. Say that three times fast, lol.
Anyway, back to the original question, though I have none experience with the Like 50, Kymco is a Taiwan company that generally makes good scoots. I can tell you that Kymco is very popular in Taiwan with the natives.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the Like, but not knowing your location, I'm not sure if this would interest you, but here is a place having a great sale on scooters, where you can get a few Genuine models within your budget, http://www.scootjockeys.com/eventslist. ... mId=286973 .

Re: possible new scoot...feedback on Kymco Like 50 2t
At 220 lbs. dry weight, a 52" wheelbase and 12" wheels and tires, don't expect super good MPGs or a top speed much more than 30 maybe 33 MPH. If you can live with these numbers, you'll probably be OK as Kymco is a top name in the business, they have a good network of dealers with excellent parts and service support and I like the retro look of the 50/200 Likes. I don't know about the 50 but the seat design of the 200 was very poor. If it's the same seat, I suggest you go back to the dealer and sit on your 50, which you have a deposit on, and get a good feel for the seat like sit on it and move your butt back and forth for 10-15 minutes. If you're 5' 10" or taller, you're not going to be happy with it. If that's the case maybe you could get the dealer to switch your deposit to another scooter that fits your butt better. Or, if you're no more than 5' 8" you may be OK as I suspect the seat contour was designed with the Asian market in mind where tall people are the exception. How do I know this? I was a Like 200i owner at 5' 10" tall and I had to take the seat to a motorcycle seat specialist and get them to recontour it. Not to mention the expense, it was a gross inconvenience. After experiencing poor MPGs on top of the seat problem, I sold the Like to buy my Hooligan.kmrcstintn wrote:got the itch for a new scoot for commutes, errands, and light recreational rides; looking over several candidates in my region...I am avoiding used and consignment rides that have no dealer prep done (stabilize gas, tender battery, maintain tire pressures, etc); I prefer leftover new scoots with factory warranty; top end of budget is $2k out the door (price, tax, tags, doc fees); very, very difficult to locate leftover new Genuine scoots within my total budget...

For awhile, Kymco had some really comical bikes on their global site. There was a 50cc powered version of the GrandVista and a few other huge bikes with diminutive engines. Looks like they've cleaned up their act.dasscooter wrote:Stay away from the Like 50. It's way too big for it's engine and goes about as fast as a bicycle with a flat tire.
At what point does a hobby become an addiction? I'm uncertain, but after the twelfth scooter, it sorta feels like the latter...

Good advice. There's a 2013 170i Buddy with under 3K miles on my local CL for only $1800.dasscooter wrote:For 2K you'd be way better off in the used market. You really can't get anything worthwhile for 2K out the door. If you upped your budget to $2500 you could likely find a Buddy or Roughhouse, two far superior scoots.

My point in my earlier reply to him. Here, you can get a new Buddy or Roughie for under 2k http://www.scootjockeys.com/eventslist. ... mId=286973 but that does the OP no good if he/she is a far distance away.cummingsjc wrote:Unfortunately the OP does not have his location information in his profile block or we might be able to help him with finding his next ride. I agree that a used Buddy 125 would probably work well for him at a very reasonable price.

thanks for feedback...working on another idea; I'm not sure if anything will come to fruition yet...I am in pre-deposit negotiations with my favorite shop on a leftover 2013 Genuine Buddy 125; told them I need total price no higher than $2k (price, tax, title, doc fees) and I throw them a concession in the form of the Fast4Ward Peak e-bike that I bought off them a few years ago; barely rode the thing and the instrument cluster shows only 6 cycles of battery discharge/recharge (a complete waste of time & money buying an e-bike); if all goes well I put down a deposit & give them the e-bike this weekend...the Buddy 125 already has front & rear racks (also had a windshield at one point...guess it was a shop display model for accessories); guess I'll eat the deposit on the Kymco if I get the Buddy (hoping I can use part of it for insulated gloves or something else); anxiously waiting for tax paperwork to arrive...

You might consider adding your location information to your profile. It makes things easier for other members to help you with your questions.kmrcstintn wrote:thanks for feedback...working on another idea; I'm not sure if anything will come to fruition yet...I am in pre-deposit negotiations with my favorite shop on a leftover 2013 Genuine Buddy 125; told them I need total price no higher than $2k (price, tax, title, doc fees) and I throw them a concession in the form of the Fast4Ward Peak e-bike that I bought off them a few years ago; barely rode the thing and the instrument cluster shows only 6 cycles of battery discharge/recharge (a complete waste of time & money buying an e-bike); if all goes well I put down a deposit & give them the e-bike this weekend...the Buddy 125 already has front & rear racks (also had a windshield at one point...guess it was a shop display model for accessories); guess I'll eat the deposit on the Kymco if I get the Buddy (hoping I can use part of it for insulated gloves or something else); anxiously waiting for tax paperwork to arrive...
