Speedometer Cable Question

Post by Yalzin »

Hey all! It finally happened - I busted my speedometer cable. Almost 13,000 miles before it went.

I'm having some trouble sourcing a new inner cable (though I'm thinking of just replacing the whole shebang, though I know it's a PITA). My local dealer closed. I've contacted Scooterworks Chicago, who said they'd get back to me, but must have gotten lost somewhere along the way. Google searches have failed me (as have scooterwest, scooterworks, and ebay).

I COULD order one for a Star from the UK, buuuut I'd rather have it sooner rather than next month.

Suggestions? Can I use one from a PX150/200?

Thanks :)

As my cable just broke after 13000m, I am wondering the same thing. I'm replacing it today with an LML one, but how long will that last? I'd rather use a Vespa one.

I got mine at my local dealer, Philly Scooters. Where are you located?

Just call your closest Genuine dealer. Genuine parts is not really structured to work thru Scooterworks or by direct telephone sales.
(though ScooterWest is a Genuine dealer and a direct call to them ought to work for you)

used to work at my local dealership until we closed for good at the end of last year. Now the nearest one is about an hour away, which isn't too bad (though they don't have the best reputation).

I'll have to give Scooterwest a call I suppose to see if they can get me one.

Just to clarify, a PX one will work?

There are two different PX speedo cables, a clip one and a threaded cap one. If I recall, the Stella uses the one with the threaded cap.

Might as well replace that plastic gear too inside the hub while you're at it.

For some closure, I ended up buying https://www.scooterworks.com/Inner-Spee ... P2476.aspx

Works perfectly.

It's funny, not too long after I posted my original response, mine broke.

All better now thanks to Mercato. :)

But that is just for the 'outer'?
Will the same 'inner' work for.both types?
