Assuming regular checking of pressures, how many miles should I expect to get from the original tires before they must be replaced?

The life of a set of scooter tires is very much a function of how you ride the scooter. When the wear bars appear on the back tire or when tread in the middle of the tire is down to 1/16 inch, it is time to replace it. And, as many owners do not put a lot of miles on small scooters, the tires only last 5 or 6 years before the rubber compound hardens and they should be replaced regardless.

Thanks Douglas, so it is not so much a consideration of miles as a way they are used or the age of the tires ?

Yes. Factors such as rider weight, riding style (aggressive versus laid back), road surfaces, exposure to weather, etc. will determine the amount of miles you can put on a pair or tires. Generally, the rear (the drive tire) will wear out faster than the front if the scoot is ridden a lot.
