Stella 4T conversion to 2T

Post by Dierjm »

So how hard could it be? Unbolt the 4T and bolt in a new 2T engine, got to remember to mix oil with gas.
The problem is performance of the 4T sucks and improvement mods are scarce, It seems every thing is available for the 2T. Not to mention the classic Vespa sound.

How hard could it be? Fairly tough, actually. In order to fit the 4T engine into the Stella body, it was necessary for LML to build a new tubular subframe in the back part of the stamped metal body. It is not a simple bolt in job as the motor mounts are positioned differently.

 Well thats a horse of a different color. Well I'm sure I can live with it. I purchased a used head and jug,so I could see what was in the 4T, valve size is pathetic, I have model airplanes with larger valves and ports, I will admit they have a nice port runner but there is lots more room for valves and larger seats in the head, but where the hell can I buy larger valves and seats for a 4T Stella, every thing is a hassle. I will tweak it and leave it as is.

4T Stella parts are going to be harder and harder to find and nobody is going to develop aftermarket parts for such a small market.

If you want the good kick in the seat of the pants go 2T P200.

SIP has a load of LML 200 4T engines which fit into the frame fairly easily.

Do they make big bore kits for the LML 200 4t?
That would be something.

I can't imagine kitting it will do wonders for your warranty though....what about a better exhaust and opening up the airbox baffles? I know the 2t ones were also pretty down on power from the factory, something to do with EPA restrictions at the time, but that they responded well to some old fashioned tuning

I think I'm at about the max an LML 150 4T can go bolt on.
Airbox removed--RamAir filter
165 Polini Big Bore
22mm Polini carb
22 gear
GPR Exhaust
Tasso race coil

I have to admit, the thing kinda flies. Come summer I'm going to get her dynoed.
