Idles then dies! AARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by MikeR »

HELP!!

Brought my Buddy 50 in for it's first maintenance, a few days later It had starting problems - would have to go through the procedure of trying to start several times, it would eventually start, but if I let go of the throttle it would idle slowly and die.

I checked the battery, and it's fine.

So, I brought the Buddy back to the shop, the dealer changed the sparkplug. and I drove away ok. The next day - the problem returned.

It appears that once I (finally) get it started, I have to warm it up for a lot more than usual, with the throttle held open - then it'll be okay until I turn off the Buddy.

Does anyone have the solution to the problem (other than never returning to the same dealer!)??

Much appreciated!!

Curious to know who did the work. I have a shop I now avoid. Anyways, spark plug tight/gap correct? Boot fit tight on plug? Not sure on a Buddy 50, but my manual choke has a cross threaded cap screw, and it backed out while going to work. Kept stalling unless I held the throttle partly open. You have a electric choke thats pretty bulletproof, unless its unplugged. Is the air filter box properly connected to the carb mouth? If it came off for some reason the scoot will run weird. Nothing else is popping in my head at the moment. A good Star Trek is on with a young Mel the cook from Alice playing a gangster!

I checked spark plug and boot - all seems ok.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'm open to any more, especially ones that have terminology which I can understand, being a first time scooter owner and not knowing the names of parts and/or their locations. Sigh.

Where is it, what does it look like, and how would I check it?

Thanks from a first time scooter owner who barely knows these types of technical things.
