Hi, my 1981 P200e has recently developed a shimmy sometimes in 3 or 4th gears. Mostle when reducing speed and happens too when cruising 3rd and 4th gear.
Not on acceleration though.
Any ideas? Thanks

Driveshaft splines worn out, or the splines on the hub?

Not so much, it's the rear axle itself. Take off the rear wheel, hub and all, and check out the condition of the axle splines.
