Rear brake drum warpage on Buddy scoots

Post by fried okra »

My new Buddy 125 has a pulsation when applying the rear brake.

I've gotta believe this is due to a warpage of the rear drum.

I'm trying to decide whether this is worth going thru the warranty process or whether its fairly typical of Buddy scooters, and to just live it.

Anyone else been down this road before?

If you are talking grabbing then yes. Less bad during colder weather. Hot weather and rain make it pretty scary. And it usually eases after riding for ten minutes or so.

I need to have my tire changed and will ask them to replace the entire mechanism at this point.

That whole assembly was taken apart, cleaned and regreassed which fixed the problem temporarily but it always came back. They claim they cleaned it and don’t know what the issue is.
It’s frustrating. I’ve used brake cleaner and grease myself.

Mukai.....please note below, the question got posted twice.

Does your scoot have the steel wheels or the aluminum alloy wheels as being used in the last year or so?

A number of us with Buddys with the steel wheels have responded that pulsating of the rear brake is not a typical "Buddy trait" with our scooters. I think your question comes down to whether this is more common with the newer alloy wheel Buddys. As you describe the problem, I don't think I'd just live with it. I'd seek a warranty repair.

Dooglas, thanks, I totally agree.

I drove a couple of the new Buddy 50's with alloy wheels my local dealer has and there is no rear brake "pulsation" at low speeds on them.

My dealer has been very helpful trying to resolve this issue. A new rear brake drum assembly is being sent to the dealer to repair.

I will report back after the repair.

That post is spam. He inserted a link in the quote to drive up click rates and make the link look good to Google since it is being referred to from this site.

To bring closure to the rear brake drum warpage initial post, the Genuine Modern Buddy corporate office provided a new rear brake drum and Caleb at Scooter Stop here in Charleston, SC swapped it out and it's smooth as silk now using the rear brake.

Problem solved.
