Buddy Throttle Cable

Post by dromedary »

2008 Buddy 150 Pamplona

Was starting up and I felt, heard a pop under my right hand. Scooter tries to start and fires but immediately dies. No tension when I turn the throttle and it won't rev. I assume throttle cable popped/broke.

I have a new one but seems like I'm gonna have to take the whole body apart to run it down to the carb. Are there any tricks to this? Any way I can do it without taking everything off?

Hoping...

If the throttle cable is broke, it should still idle. Perhaps your idle screw is out of adjustment.

Wait, why do you even need to operate the throttle to start it? You should be a ble to start it, and let it idle and warm up with any tension on that cable.

It had been sitting for a month so when it fired but didn't start, I thought it might need a little gas so I twisted the throttle. Yes, normally I just push the button, it fires and starts without touching the throttle.

I'll check the screw. Thanks for the suggestion.

I haven't replaced the throttle cable on a Buddy but the old trick that I know is to disconnect the ends of the cable, then secure the new one to the old one. Zip ties, duct tape, whatever. When you pull the old cable out it will pull the new one with it. There may be a place where it gets hung up. Then you can resort to removing the body.
