Aloha from Hawaii! Yeah Buddy!!

Post by Yeahbuddy! »

Aloha Modernbuddy!

Picked up a 2016 higher mileage 50cc Buddy the other day and felt it was time to hop on the forum! Plans are to see how many miles I can rack up before it dies on me. Hopefully a lot! Gonna mainly do cosmetic mods as she’s a little buss up. But she’s already been derestricted, and has a Yasuni pipe. So far I’ve gotten her to an indicated 47mph.

Had to degrease the engine and underbody, a quick bath, and fill up some gas and 2T oil. 🤙🏽

I bought my Buddy 150 with a Hawaii title and license plate. In Nevada.

15600 when I bought it. She’s definitely not a garage queen!

Long time since I’ve logged on. Ended up selling the Buddy 50. She was fun, and quick for a 50! That Yasuni pipe is no joke!

Well 2 years later, I was missing the little 50 and decided it was time to get another one! Low mileage (newer model, cast wheels) and has the “performance muffler”. But she much slower in comparison to the white beast! Lol.

What are the best upgrades to get some pep? Want to keep the motor stock, but thinking rollers, maybe airbox and jetting? Lmk what you all recommend!

My '08 150 International spent some time in Honolulu with a previous owner. I have registration docs and service bills to show it, as well as the license plate. Sure seems like scooter mechanics are super expensive in HI. Learn to DIY!

Nice! I honestly would love a buddy 125, but the 50 2t is so much fun! Just need to get better gearing for hills, and want it to hit around 45mph. My previous Buddy was set up to do this, but the PO was the one who paid for the upgrades, so I am not sure exactly what he did beside what I could see. Pipe, jetting, airbox delete, etc

I would "assume" that the general tuning on a RH50 would be the same as a Buddy 50? On Zuma bug-eye scooters the best bang for your buck beginner tune was a Yasuni Z exhaust with the restrictor removed and a Malossi Multivar 2000 variator, and all the related tuning: upjet the main, proper roller weights, white torque spring and whatnot.

I always run the stock air box. Pods are a PITA to tune as some scooters "require" the stock air box to regulate incoming air pressure. Zuma's really suffered from pod filters and the so-called power gains from a pod filter was not worth the tuning trouble. We did remove the snorkel in the stock air box though.

I keep getting tempted to get another 2-stroke like a RH50 but my ebikes haul butt and I can ride them pretty much anywhere and not worry about anything. Or maybe a Tomos A35 moped, heck, even a A55 motor would be fine with me. Your'e gonna make me start looking for a 2-stroke again!
