Stebel air horns on 08 Buddy or Just International Buddy?

Post by bruce13 »

Is the Stebel Air Horn on the 08 Buddy or just the International Buddy? I honked a horn on a 07 Buddy and it sounded different than an 08 Buddy.

Internationals have the Stebel Nautilus which is the loudest.

Regular 2008 buddies have the magnum which is still loud

2006/2007 have a standard horn.

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing only the Internationals have the Stebel, as the specs page at the Genuine site show them for the Internationals. The spec page for the Buddy make no mention of the horn.

I can confirm both bikes have stebels. I've opened up the pamplona and tangerine.

Both have stebel

International: Nautilus
2008: Magnum

Good to know. I ordered a Nautilus for my Buddy and told my dad he can have my hand-me-down. His Vino makes the cutest little toot-toot.

Stebel air horns on 08 Buddy or Just International Buddy?

Post by bruce13 »

Thanks.

Jfrost, would you think it would be worth upgrading to the Nautilus from the Magnum? Or is it too close to call?

International: Nautilus
2008: Magnum

How about a picture of how the Nautilus is mounted on the new Internationals? What kind of bracket, if any?

It's twice as loud, but I like the sound of the magnum better. It's louder than most car horns already.

yes yes yes- been dying to see where they put it!

There have been some good long threads on ModernVespa about both Stebel horns. Here's one:
http://www.modernvespa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22270

The general consensus was that the Nautilus is likely much more "useful" in getting people's attention not only due to the fact that it's about twice as loud but also it's got two tones instead of one.

The Magnum is definitely an upgrade from the "original" Buddy horns but I really want the Nautilus!

Hey jfrost2- is the Magnum installed with or without a relay?

I dont want to take apart the pamplona, it has a front rack, and it's a pain to remove.

And jmazza, I'm no electric expert, so I dunno what a relay is, sorry.

Nevermind, I googled it, I'm pretty sure the relay isnt connected to the horn.

Not an '08 International, sorry, but I installed a Nautilus in my '07 Italia (with lame-O homemade bracket). WORKS GREAT!!!

The one I would REALLY LIKE is on the Stebel website it is a compact trucker horn. I don't remember if they mentioned the size, but I doubt it would fit in a Buddy unless you mounted outside the panels or under the seat. It is BOSS! I do like my Nautilus, but the truck horn has a nice lower tone. Aaahhh... music to my ears.

Genuine does theirs the same but backwards, but horn itself is pointing toward the inside of the bike while the back silver tube is pointing outward.

My stebel will be here today ... can't wait to get working on it.

And my back rack showed up yesterday!

Not sure which is more fun? Tinkering with the Buddy or riding the Buddy ...

LOL - I know.... I like it when people say "beep the horn" think it'll be this wimpy *toot-toot*..... I usually let 'em have it and then laugh at the looks on their faces!!

I went to my dad's test, surprisingly a bunch of scooter riders for their endorsement. The buddy had the loudest horn of all bikes, it was louder than the harleys, sport bikes, and other scooters.
