i'll be upgrading from a 50cc vino to a buddy 125 very soon as i passed the MSF course last week here in west LA and will be picking up my license from the DMV tomorrow. :D

i moved to LA from manhattan where i used to do consulting, but i'm currently the co-founder of a web production/marketing agency primarily serving the film and music industries.

(the photo is of me and my girlfriend, who incidentally can't wait to hitch a ride on the back of my buddy. lol.)

she's never ridden a bike before and had trouble getting the hang of a razor scooter, so i'm thinking 60mph+ might have to wait a while.

incidentally, we checked out the buddy for the first time up close at NOHO scooters here in LA. i'm very tempted, but i'm still thinking i might want more power, size, and 2-seater comfort. doing more research now......

Don't be so sure! My wife (aka GatsbyGirl) had never ridden before getting her Buddy. She's taking to it pretty damn quick (though 60mph may be a couple weeks away). Jen @ NoHo gives a pretty good lesson for first timers.

While it may not give you more power, I have a Vespa LX150 which we've been riding 2-up for the past year. If I'd known the woman who threatened to move into the guest room when I bought my scoot would become a frequent passenger, I'd have gotten the GT 200 or GTS. Good thing she eventually got her own. Of course, those all come with the myriad of Vespa issues discussed all over. (Still love my scooter!)

Yes, the guy on the left is ericalm. I'm the one on the right. As a rule I'm extremely unphotogenic. Things were not helped when when I was surprised with "time for family portrait" when we went out for our Saturday morning ride. Nor was I allowed to go back in and put on some lipstick or at least a little blush.

Meanwhile, ericalm looks suspiciously showered and refreshed, doesn't he?

GatsbyGirl... I notice your scooters are still gazing lovingly at each other. Was it love at first sight? Or have they grown closer behind garage doors?

I wonder what the offspring will look like!

You know, by no stretch of the imagination are ericalm and I a "cute" couple, so it's a bit vexing that our scooters are so damn adorable together. It's not just the colors, but the Buddy's slightly more petite size that does it as well.

I keep joking that we look like we're playing "The Game of Life" when we're tooling around together. In which case, the offspring will probably look like little pink and blue plastic pegs that the cat has chewed on. Roll a six -- it's twins!

But really, we just feed and shelter those two crazy kids. Who are we to stand in the way of their forbidden Vespa/Buddy love?

I know I didn't buy a Buddy, but as a lurker, I thought I'd post anyways, I put up a blog about my scooter addiction :-), complete with pictures of the new Kymco. I'm also working on some ride route maps of the north fulton, south forsyth, west cherokee county areas of north Altanta to be posted there.

Here's me on my brand new 125 on my way to work in Catalina, AZ (20 miles north of Tucson). I have a whopping 5 mile commute to Sierra-Tucson, the poshest rehab I've ever worked in. We're here for 6 mos. then it's on to Denver.

The fat one is me. The skinny one I'm carrying is my beautiful daughter Grace.

My real name is Kevin, I am a husband (21 years!) and Dad (7 years). I play guitar and sing, and for money I exert my off-kilter will on thousands of computers all over the world.

ScooterDave,

I haven't managed to make an XYL ride yet, but I will. I will.

Stop by TowerPlace Parking downtown around 4:00PM today so I can ride with you and earn one of those nifty shirts. :P

If you rode today, you are a better man than I.

I had to take my daughter to school this morning otherwise I most likely would have ridden today. It was only 25 degrees when I left home. Because of the nature of my job, I can only ride about 1 day a week. I am meeting with clients quite a bit in the afternoons.

I can do lunch almost anytime. I work in the 800 block of Race. I guess I could do some "I ate lunch with Scooter Dave" shirts. I am a huge fan of Dinks on Vine.

Dave, with your glasses you look like a shiny headed Drew Carey! (I have a shiny head, too, but don't look like anyone but my Dad.)

I had the Carhartts and snowmobile boots laid out to ride this AM, but awoke to 6" of snow. Now they'll dump 200# of salt at each end of my road every time it snows, so I'm done till it rains in the spring...
