$4.63 a gallon, what are you paying?

Post by babblefish »

Premium is as high as $4.63 a gallon around here (from what I've seen so far). Regular is about $4.29. So what is everyone else paying? $1.99?

I feel sorry for the diesel guys: $5.10 a gallon.

Regular $3.61 at Sams Club (membership needed)

When I went to the beach Tuesday to go to the scooter shop it was $3.99 a gallon for regular, we have a station near our airport (Orlando) that charges $5.00 a gallon for regular.

We have a company offering the same thing, I did not think it was jeep though. But it locks in the rate at $2.99 and the car company pays the rest. They give you a card you swipe before you swipe your debit card.

It's $4.19-ish downtown, and 1¢ cheaper every mile closer to the suburbs. I'd love to see a color-coded map, it would be perfect rings, I bet.

Yeah... Chicago has something like a 12 cent a gallon tax + cook county has an extra tax right? - I am lucky that Lemont is in the corner of cook - I drive 2 miles into Will county & usually pay 10 cents less a gallon than I do in Lemont village limits.
That is when I fill up my car... not the scooter.

The Dodge thing sound cool, but it's not as much $$$ as you'd think. The benefit covers 3yr or 36,000 miles. I know some of their trucks get 10mpg, but they do have cars that can get 30mpg. Let's say they average 18mpg (between the number of cars, minivans and trucks they sell). If regular goes up to $4.99 a gallon ($2 from Dodge) they'd be paying out $4000 over 3 years. I realize on trucks that ammount would be higher, cars lower. Considering they've had $8000 rebates before on trucks, I'd take the 8 grand.

The 2.99 thing from Chrysler might be neat, but gas is going to be reeeeaal expensive when that expires. Those of us who ride cooters think long term.

BTW, the Roz (from Monsters Inc) avatar is my wife- she doesn't look like that in real life :)

If I had a diesel engine in my car I would convert it to vegetable oil and go down the road smiling and smelling like french fries. Conversion kits are available on the net for under $1000. Diesel prices make it more affordable all the time.

Royal Enfield has a diesel motorcycle. Hmm, I wonder if a Buddy could be converted????????????

I know that if you can take the time and effort to convert the oil to bio-deisel the only changes you would have to make you your car is to change the valves and seals.

You need a engine heater too, and some new fuel lines. Biodisel doesnt clump up like regular old oil does when cold, but the heater helps it flow as smooth as possible when starting up the engine.

But without it, I'm sure it would run. I saw on mythbusters, regular straight from the bottle oil will run off a disel engine with no modification and get about 30mpg in a sedan they tested.

Why convert to biodiesel? Just filter the old oil and run it. Monday - French Fries. Tuesday - Fried Chicken. Wednesday - Fried Shrimp. etc.
Thursday - Egg Rolls. Friday - What else? Fried Fish! Smell like something different every day!

I've done the research on the net and found several places selling conversion kits, complete with heated tanks, filters, everything you need.

I find it strange that diesel is so much more expensive than gasoline. Back in the late '70s...or was it the early '80s?, anyway, back then people were scrambling to buy diesel powered cars because diesel was cheaper than gasoline. Wha hoppined?

Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) conversions are very popular around here. I call 'em Frymobiles. Riding a scoot, you can smell one of them from about a half a mile back.

The conversions they do locally (http://www.lovecraftbiofuels.com) will run filtered WVO, straight veggie oil, diesel, biodiesel and any combination. The market for decent Mercedes diesels here is hot as a result, and if you can find a late-model VW TDI (which weren't sold in CA), it's gold!

Just filled up my wifes minivan - $3.99 a gallon for reg.
Had to drive 2 miles out of town to get that price - $67 for the fill up (pretty sure this is the most I ever paid for a fill up) - she was way left of empty pulling a Kramer.

Car Salesman: You ever go below the line?
Kramer: Once, but I blacked out. I woke up and the car was in a ditch with a full tank of gas! I didn't ask who did it.

Regular has topped $3.70 in the past few days here in Denver.

By the way, if you don't say where you live or list it in your profile, your info in this thread is pretty pointless.

The Chrysler $2.99 gimmick kind of bothers me. To me, it's a bad sign if your marketing department is doing stuff like this when your engineers might be capable of designing vehicles that are more efficient. Also, if you invest in one of these cars and fuel prices continue to increase, reselling or trading that vehicle down the road could be difficult and costly.

There are places on this planet where gas is approaching the equivalent of $10 US a gallon. Analysts are trying to determine the "walk away" price of gas, that level where folks just say, "forget it" and try something else. For many, there is no walk away price, they have no alternative. But, for those of us with other options, it appears that we're now very close to the walk away price (based on sales of alternative vehicles and public transportation). If gas prices look like they're going to stay above the walk away price, the resale value of inefficient vehicles is going to suffer.

It's about $3.60 here in SC...high enough that my wife and I try to combine tasks so we can take care of multiple things in one outing. Another thing that people should do more of is support local stores. We've been going to the closest grocery store, the closest coffee shop, the closest hair salon, and the closest restaurants for a bit now, and it's amazing how much of a difference it's made. The price of gas will continue to climb, but we can be smart and figure out how to use less.

I sold one of my ATVs last night (a little 50cc) & the guys comes to look it over & we are in my garage... he kind of smirked at my scooter... but what is he driving? A BRAND NEW (no plates yet) Durango with a Hemi.
He was trying to get another $50 off the ATV & I said no & told him it was only a 1/2 tank of gas for his SUV
He bought it anyway.
But who the heck would buy a 13MPG SUV now? (gas in my town is $4.07 today)
I dont care how much they are wheeling & dealing at the dealerships.
I bet he got the $2.99 a gallon deal... SUCKER

first off i'm not a big chrysler probably a deal where you have to send in your reciepts for every tank of gas and then they send you back a check for the difference like 8 months later. but honestly....are their products worth it.

I actually rang up over $4 filling my tank for the first time yesterday.

Costco is the cheapest at $3.83 per gal. But the lines are too long. I go to the next cheapest (4cents more) and have no waiting.

Brimstone... no they're not  But that's just my competitve side talking. You've got a good vehicle to drive in Alaska, can't go wrong with a Nissan or Toyota 4x4 for performance and reliability. Jeep/Chrysler has the performance side down, and they're working on the reliability side very hard.
