Gas Pains...
Just filled up today -- $4.039 for regular unleaded (or was it $4.059?)... cost me nearly $42, all told.

Regular is up to $4.09 at my usual station. Highest local price: $4.33 in West LA (Pasadena, you're off the hook!) but it's $4.16 or so at a number of stations.

gas prices
Here in Cincy I have seen $3.94-$3.99. Now that was eight hours ago..so who knows in another 4 hours when I leave work.
I was at a dealership 2 days ago trading in my gas beast for a more feul friendly car and he said some financing companies are not financing folks for big trucks(F150) due to the trade in value and turnover.... all the trucks were way in the back of the lot.
BTW, Scooter article in Wall Street Journal on Wed. Pretty positive write up!

That's almost double of what our non-TDI Beetle gets, BTW. So even with the higher price of diesel, the TDI wins out.MikieTaps wrote:alot of diesels get great mileage tho, my friend has a TDI beetle, like '05 and gets near 55-65 mpg
If the VW Tiguan TDI had been available a few months ago, I may have bought one. I don't think they'll be available for another year or so, though. Bah.
Still, I think fuel prices may put a kink in a lot of companies' "clean diesel" initiatives. Regardless of the math, tell people gas is over $5/gal. and I'm sure they'll run to the nearest Prius. Human nature!

We were vacationing in Northern California a couple of weeks ago and got a free upgrade on a rental Prius. Considering the type of driving we were doing (coastal and mountain twisties and highways) we got remarkable mileage. Overall though, I really disliked the Prius. Creepy start-up sequence, a strange, non-downshiftable transmission and a ludicrous powerpoint presentation on the dashboard.Still, I think fuel prices may put a kink in a lot of companies' "clean diesel" initiatives. I'm sure that with some time and practice I'd get used to this car but I don't think I'd ever love it. If you own one and love it don't take this personally. There are very cars I admire these days.

I've driven a Prius a few times for brief, in-city jaunts and I thought it was kind of fun. The dash display appealed to my inner technophile. Still, I think it's gotten to the point (especially in SoCal) where many Prius drivers have convinced themselves they're making the world a better place, instead of just a less worse one. I was all for hybrid adoption a couple years ago. Now I feel like we've shown there's a market for fuel-efficient cars and alternative fuels—time to move on to the next phase.gt1000 wrote:We were vacationing in Northern California a couple of weeks ago and got a free upgrade on a rental Prius. You're probably right about that. On the other hand, that will make it easier for the rest of us to get a new diesel Jetta Sportwagon or Tiguan when they become available. The small diesels have always been in short supply and hard to get. Its fine to talk about in town mileage with a Prius but when you get out on the highway, nothing beats a small diesel. (and in town - we ride our scooters!)ericalm wrote: That's almost double of what our non-TDI Beetle gets, BTW. So even with the higher price of diesel, the TDI wins out.

We've been deprived of all the diesels in CA for a number of years. There's a big market for used ones for converting to Waste Vegetable Oil, but all that's available are usually 20 year old Mercedes. That's cool, but it's still an old car with old car problems. When people bring in TDIs from out of state and sell them here, they (used to) get a lot more than in neighboring states.Dooglas wrote:You're probably right about that. Just for the record as of 6/15/08:
Super - $4.80
Reg - $4.55
And this is at a budget brand gas station, not Chevron, Shell, etc.
And also - one question I've never seen asked or answered: I always thought gas stations paid for their gas when it gets delivered, so the cost should be what ever it was for that particular day. So why/how do gas prices change so quickly, up to 4 times in one day from what I've seen? If the gas is already paid for, isn't this price jacking illegal?

I am really starting to get spoiled by not spending money on gas. I cant imagine having to put gas in a car again. I know when I have kids I will need to get myself a new cage, hopefully that wont be for another 5-6 years at least, but eventually in my future there will be a Cage. For now, I got my buddy, and couldn’t be happier.

Over $4.80 at several stations in the area. Paid $4.59/gal. to fill my car, but most stations around my house have cracked the $4.70 mark.
Prices will be going up and they're predicting the SoCal prices will top $5/gal in the next couple of weeks.

June 16th, Philadelphia suburbs...average price for 87 octane is $4.15/gal. Diesel is $5/gal. Higher octane is around $4.25 to $4.45.
Yuck...what a mess. Ride scooter 12 miles a day to work and at any excuse I can find at home. The Agility's price point was great and I am very happy with the quality etc. What I expected...no more no less.
Had scooters for years, sold last one last spring (Piaggio BV200). Got last Kymco Agility 125 in May...just in time.
Be safe out there everyone.

Old thread, but I thought I'd bring it up again for an update.
I'm paying about $4.40 gallon here in the SF Bay Area for regular. Some stations are as low as $4.30, some as high as $4.50. This is still cheaper than it was a couple of months ago.
Am I getting screwed when compared to the rest of the nation?

You guys make me sick!!!
Why do we have to pay $1.00 or more per gallon when we're already paying $800,000 for 1200 - 1400 sq/ft homes around here!!!
And here I thought we were doing great because the price per gallon dropped $.13 - .23 cents!
Anyone here have any Vasoline to spare?

I hate to tell you but it's even worse than you think. My grocery store (a Richmond chain called Ukrop's) has a program called FuelPerks where they give you a credit good for ten cents off per gallon for every $50 of groceries you buy. I saved a couple weeks' worth of credits and got $0.70 off per gallon on my last fill up. That's $3.42 - 0.70 = $2.72/gallon for that fill up.babblefish wrote:Why do we have to pay $1.00 or more per gallon...?
